A strong majority of Canadians back a complete ban on civilians possessing the kinds of “assault-style” weapons used to carry out a recent rampage that left 22 killed in Nova Scotia last month.

“Significantly, two-thirds (65%) strongly support such a move, giving federal policy makers a clear mandate to go forward,” wrote a spokesperson for the pollster in a statement.

6. 80% of americans do too, but our political system is horribly broken and corrupt to act

There's a long list of policy items supported by vast majority of americans but the GOP has been steadfast in blocking them for decades. Instead, they opt to just cut taxes for the rich and pack the courts with right-wing ideologues.

From https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/trudeau-gun-control-measures-ban-1.5552131

"These weapons were designed for one purpose and one purpose only: to kill the largest number of people in the shortest amount of time," Trudeau said. "There is no use and no place for such weapons in Canada."

Problem will be to collect them imo . . .

The M16, M4, AR-10 and AR-15 rifles were used in the Sandy Hook, New Zealand, Las Vegas and Orlando mass shootings. There are an estimated 83,572 of them in Canada.

The Ruger Mini-14, the type of firearm used in the École Polytechnique shooting, is also on the list. There are an estimated 16,859 of them in Canada.

The M14 rifle, used in the Moncton shooting, is also expected to be banned. There are an estimated 5,229 of those in Canada.

/snip/

I fear many of the above mentioned weapons will just sorta "disappear" . . .

Oh yeah, we have gun nuts here too.

(sigh)
