Our greatest problem right now? Gaps in knowledge.
Our biggest problem right now is that we are not working in a globally coordinated effort to gather and share critical information about the virus.
Any group of researchers in any nation can make a claim about treatment, a vaccine, infections, reinfections, deaths, etc., and there's no mechanism to determine if the claim is accurate, not re-producible, a scam, or that the collection of data is incomplete.
What we should have in place is a globally, coordinated effort between nations to gather information on tests/death, peer review claims about treatments/anitbodies, set standards for future tests/studies, etc.
Our interconnected global communications networks can report information far faster than we can evaluate it making it easier for false or incomplete data to be communicated instantly.
The U.S. should be leading this global effort. We should be working with our allies to devise one standard test that the world can use to track this virus.
However, we have a clown as our president and a Republican party that only cares about their uber wealthy donors.
--On Edit to add--
What we should have in place is a global standard for studies, peer review/evaluation, and testing. Researchers need to submit informaton about their studies to this global peer review group for approval. This will at least give the public the information that the study's methodology has been reviewed and its results have been peer reviewed or at least pending review.
