Of course, everybody wants to save every life they canbut the question is, towards what end, ultimately? Christie said. Are there ways that we can thread the middle here to allow that there are going to be deaths, and there are going to be deaths no matter what?
...(T)he American people have gone through significant death before...We sent our young men during World War II over to Europe, out to the Pacific, knowing, knowing that many of them would not come home alive...And we decided to make that sacrifice because what we were standing up for was the American way of life. (It's) the very same way now...
But when we sent those Americans off to war, we sent them with ways to mitigate their deaths -- by supplying them with armor, weaponry, training, a battle plan, an exit strategy, and most important, credible and trustworthy leadership. The real problem is that the way to mitigate this war is literally under our noses, and it's not being taken.
Now that we know that the virus is spreading via people who don't know they're infected, the battle plan should be to detect and properly quarantine them so the uninfected can not only resume the American way of life, but build up the herd immunity. Front-end mass testing has worked in other countries, and a mass testing protocol based on saliva rather than blood or mucus sampling is available. Irony alert -- it was developed in New Jersey, so you'd think that Christie would be screaming for it to be mass produced! But then again, I didn't nickname him "Governor Soprano" for nothing.

Christi is just stretching the track for Trump. Giving him the opportunity to backtrack on his original death rate numbers.

My 70 year old neighbor died yesterday from the virus. Grandfather of 10, most of whom who could be seen nearly every weekend visiting their papa.
Why him and not the likes of Christie?

Honestly, that's not snark. He's smack dab in the middle of the health status for which this thing is deadly as can be.

(24,407 posts)seem to think that we all signed up for something we obviously didn't sign up for. If we were actually signing up for the military to go fight a war, then he might have a point, but that doesn't apply for the vast majority of the American public. Nobody is signing up to be cannon fodder for Trump's re-election.

(24,396 posts)In WWII, it was $10,000, or $158,352 in 2020 dollars.
Let's see, at 70,000 Americans dead from tRump's botched response, that's $11,084,640,000. Is Christie advocating we pay that to surviving family members?
