Does this respirator only have a check valve for exhaling? Turbineguy May 2020 #1

Most cities don't have a strict code like that. In fact where I am at, DeWine first ordered masks as a requirement, then backed out. So you don't have to wear a mask at all (unless you want to).
All elastomeric respirators have a valve as far as I can tell, otherwise you couldn't breathe in them.

But it's better then nothing. The valve still reduces velocity of the exhaled air. Plus that mask with the p100 filters actually protect the wearer better then the cloth or disposable n95's.

They are designed to protect whoever wears them. So they will protect the person wearing them much better than surgical masks or homemade masks.
By the way, those homemade masks and surgical masks don't usually seal well around the face. There usually are gaps between the face and the mask. So air still escapes, which means you don't protect those around you a 100 % either, if you are wearing a surgical mask or a homemade mask.

...which I do with my mask below.

Still, there are people running around with one-ply of cloth fabric over their mouths which reduces transmission somewhat but does f-all to seriously reduce the risk of inhaled particles from people not wearing masks.

So, yeah, I wear a cartridge respirator and put that one ply of fabric in front of the check valve.

The 2297 filters are easier to breath with, just a fyi. They are gray, not pink. Wish I got a 7500 series, but same as you, I bought mine like 2 years ago.

You never know how someone is going to react to the virus. There have been cases of perfectly healthy young people reacting very badly to this virus.

because I’m afraid it’s going to get much, much worse. For myself I would likely be saving the big guns for a time which I fear is not so far away.

Of course for myself, I am also factoring in the fact that I have N95 equivalent masks to wear. Given the choice between the respirator above and nothing, I would choose the respirator above every single time. Like I said, depends.

They are easier to breath through then the pink ones. Both filter the same though, with a P100 rating.

...who is a registered nurse sent us a couple of surgical masks last year before all of this started. We also had a couple of N95 masks from Home Depot when my wife was wanting to use oil based paint for painting in a bathroom last year. She never used the N95 and we are lucky to have a couple of each.
