...between the election of Joe Biden and his inauguration? In the middle of December, let's say. That orange raccoon thing is still in the White House for about four weeks, and the turtle, having just lost to Amy McGrath, is still in the Senate and still the majority leader for a couple of weeks.
I keep thinking back to four years ago when the turtle would not give Merrick Garland the time of day, insisting that we needed to "let the American people decide" whom we wanted to choose Antonin Scalia's replacement. That, of course, was nine or ten months before the election.
That would not happen this time. The orange thing would break all speed records in picking Ginsburg's replacement, and the turtle would call a special session of the Senate and run through the confirmation in equally record time.
Oh wow, that would show them up for the hypocrites they are. But they wouldn't care, they would try to do it anyway. I wonder if they would get away with it?
Just a thought experiment, of course. But the assessment of the character of those two loathsome individuals that is present in my musings is, I am sure, spot on.

(14,998 posts)So we need all of the prayerful DUers as well as the witches to throw as much protection around RBG as possible.
I bet they already have somebody waiting on deck - ready to cram onto the court. It would be interesting to see if there are any of the Republicans in the Senate who might balk. We would need to turn four of them.
Naah! They would totally do Moscow Mitch's bidding.

(3,764 posts)..........the new Democratic administration expands the Supreme Court to 13 justices and President Biden appoints 4 new, YOUNG, liberal justices. They started this shit with Merrick Garland. Now we get to finish it. We tried to play nice and compromise when Obama was President. Every time we tried to reach across the aisle, they responded by smacking our hands. So too bad, so sad. We're playing by YOUR rules now, which means the new name of the game (YOUR game) is "Fuck you if you don't have the votes." See how THEY enjoy life on the other side of the tracks for a while.

It would nullify the two stolen seats.
