How is it possible?

That a nation with perhaps the strongest military in the world, with three separate branches of government, with the power to hold each of them accountable, finds itself enslaved to a tyrant and dictator wannabe?

That permits him to lie, rob, and steal, and even, to betray this nation, and they do not lift a finger to stop him?

How is it that no one can hold him accountable to the laws of our Constitution?

Because a chain is only as strong as the weakest link and a government is only as strong as its weakest branch.

At this time, the weak link in our government that prohibits any oversight and corrupts the entire function of government, is the US Senate.

The person that leads the US Senate is Mitch McConnell, Republican from Kentucky. He, even more than the tyrant in the White House, is responsible for the condition of our nation.

That is the weak link that needs to be fixed immediately.

A breaking point is not achieved by every individual at once, but once it's been passed by enough people, all the niceties of civilization are pushed aside until the problem is corrected. That's the mistake so many make: presuming that some argument about hypocrisy or some dose of whataboutism is going to maintain the status quo in the monster's favor.

One might ask Benito Mussolini how that worked out for him.

In their infinite wisdom, did not consider a corrupt Senate propping up their corrupt President.
Regarding the 25th Amendment, there needs to be an independent commission of physicians and mental health professionals to assess the fitness of the President to serve. As in the past, the corrupt ruling party props up an President no longer fit to serve. See Reagan, Ronald.

Wed May 6, 2020, 03:07 PM

The Founding Fathers studied history and certainly read a history of the Roman Empire. They must have known a Senate could become oligarchy. Perhaps they concluded sheer numbers and patriotism in the founding generation sense would prevail, and they certainly feared but could do little about the rise of party, or factions as they called them. See Federalist No. 10.

But the U.S. has removed so few from any office it's almost laughable. Crooks are more likely to quit from embarrassment than to be impeached and convicted.

They could impeach him again, but at what price?

The partisan divide is too far apart to bridge the divides?

It would certainly fan the flames of partisanship.

Perhaps, instead of another impeachment, they could pass a vote to censure?

It might be of great value, to get a vote by each Republican Senator, just to verify that 100% are with him? But, it would get them on the record.

A censure might not be a bad idea, considering that Herr Trump felt liberated by the last impeachment.

Think outside the box.

What effect would that have on Trump? Could it possibly backfire and make him lash out like a cornered animal?

If by "thinking outside the box" you mean do something different but ulitimately ineffective, or perhaps something he sees as reason to dig in even more, to get Trump to "change," I don't see the point, other than it would make some people feel validated in their anxiety that "someone" is "doing something."

...to those that think differently from you.

People need to understand the role of Mitch McConnell and the Republicans. They may agree with them and they may not?

But the purpose of a "censure" would be to force Republicans to run on what they are hiding from.

Of course, it would not require a vote from the Senate to "censure" him. But if he has earned it, give it to him.

It would be a partisan statement but that is the only language the dictator understands. It would show him that he is not beyond criticism or accountability.

Moscow Mitch is the one and ONLY reason Trumpy is still in power, of that there can be no doubt

If he had any real love for this country, he would have had him out in the first 18 months, but McConnell is interested in only one thing at this point: Stacking the judiciary with young, radically right wing, lifetime appointments.

He knows for sure, that the demographics in this country are shifting, and that the days of the popularity of conservative political ideology are numbered. The only way he can stem the tidal wave of shifting public opinion headed right for him and others like him, is to stack the courts with ideologues who will rule in a way they want, despite public opinion to the contrary.
