Has anyone else heard this from conservative relatives

My friend tells me her conservative family members are telling her that all the reporting on masses of people going hungry in the USA is way over sensationalized. She said they claim that people will queue up in line for anything free and that a large number of them take the food home and sell it. Or also for example five people in one family drive five cars and wait in line so they can get five boxes of food. And only in America do people drive their Cadillacs to the free food lines. Of course this came to her via Facebook, which I don’t use.

We both know, and I am sure anyone reading this knows, there’s a lot more to it than that. But this is how conservatives think.

Someone who is convinced that everyone else is scamming the system is telling you how they think.

People lost their income and have no savings. What are they supposed to do?

"And only in America do people drive their Cadillacs to the free food lines."

Because that's the car they have.

You know, if you lose your income and savings, it's not as if your first priority is to go out and buy a cheaper car when you already own a car.

they'll get in line for the free food, too. They will claim, however, that they truly deserve it. The right can rationalize anything, one way or another.

That they all think that needy people are all deadbeats who will scam the system any chance they get, or will do anything for something free, other than find a job. Or that these newly minted food insecure folks are just whiners. I can’t imagine losing one’s job and having to feed a family in these times, especially with unemployment compensation so messed up in some states.

I'm not sure why that is, but if they are in need, they will be the first in line for their "socialist" support.

That’s been well established. Oh please don’t turn around and see the dump truck emptying the Treasury.

My own mother told me that she HEARD that the state secretary of education said schools might be closed for two years. This gentleman is of Arabic descent and I’ve seen posts about how he just might be part of the Muslim Brotherhood. So I looked for this about schools and found nothing. A few days later I happened upon a story about the state health commissioner misstating that Phase 1 could take 2 years. He corrected himself (in a statement later) that he meant that COVID 19 could linger for another 2 years.

7. Haven't heard that yet, but it sounds like typical RWNJ mythologizing to downplay social needs.

I do have some RWNJ relatives who have been spewing the "it's no worse than the flu" and "mortality rates are exaggerated by the media" and "no vaccine would be safe especially if Bill Gates is involved" lies.

It's so weird how these Trumpers come up with all these irrational ideas and then contort themselves to somehow use these dumb-on-the-face notions to defend Trump.

"No one's really hungry. Those people getting food at foodbanks are just cheating. That means Trump is doing a great job!"

Many people aren't really logical or rational in their thinking-- we know that and deal with it all the time. But this sort of twisted thinking is so common in Trumpers-- and you see it not just in the "low-education" voters Trump brags about, but the elected officials and senators with Harvard degrees (Ted Cruz, looking at you).

And they do this for one ridiculous reason, to pump up Trump. Somehow these fantasies of theirs -- they think-- mean Trump is really great and everyone else is wrong.

I don't get it. I just don't. At what point-- like when they get hungry too- does reality finally matter more than their Trump worship?

12. Have they not been to the grocery store lately?

The stores are still having some stocking issues. TP and papertowels definitely. I was so excited on Tuesday when I found a package of paper towels, and it was Bounty select a size. No tissues or tp. They had meat, but it was really expensive. A roast was selling for $17 a pound, and not for a great cut of meat. Needless to say we didn't buy a roast. How would their conservative family members do if they didn't get a paycheck for 2 months. The virus checks they are sending out are close to a joke. I finally got mine yesterday, it was deposited into my bank account, then last night it disappeared. It is back in today. Not sure if that was a problem with the bank or what. But it is hard to feed your family if you don't have any money coming in, and everything you can buy to feed them is ridiculously expensive.
