Can Trumps presidency survive until November? I know, we have seen how Trump gets away with everything. How Republicans in congress and his voters refuse to hold him accountable for anything. We are now programmed to believe nothing can bring Trump down.
Is that true, is that written in stone? The next six months are going to be brutal. Trump has set himself on a path that may not be survivable. Everything, everyone, has a breaking point.
Just something to think about. No one knows what is going to happen over the next six months.

This is a significant test for the repug party, and the actions of the Lincoln Project give me hope.

(31,798 posts)We are stuck with that thing in the White House.
And it is not our Democratic House or Senate Minority who own that piece of shit.
It's the GOP - to included their voters, their Senators and members of the House.
Trump is a GOP problem inflicting pain on us all - and until they turn on 45 - we are at their mercy.

(25,237 posts)In a sense - we give him permission. He says to himself: "They say I get away with anything - so I might as well do (whatever I want to get away with)."
That's why about a week ago - I was furious when I heard that Biden said this:
"Mark my words, I think he is going to try to kick back the election somehow, come up with some rationale why it can't be held, the former vice president and apparent Democratic presidential nominee said during an online fundraiser.
When a thought like that is put out there - especially by someone as prominent as Biden - in a sense - Trump is interpreting that like getting permission to do exactly what was suggested.
Again - he says - if this is what they expect me to do - I might as well do it.
This has been his modus operandi since he took office.

Newest Reality
(12,712 posts)There is nothing to show a reason to be optimistic about the next six months, at all. We may most likely be descending into a very difficult era with no recovery at all.
What I mean by that is things will change and things have to change and we won't be going back to the good old days. We will have a long phase of needed changes if all goes well, but not without a lot of hardship and much chaos to punctuate it.
The pessimist complains about the wind. The optimist waits for it to change. The realist adjusts the sails.
We don't really have the luxury these days of trying to predict exactly how the next six-months, year or two-years is going to go with all this chaos in play. What is most important, and deserves the real emphasis is: how do we get through this now?
It is probably better to go day-by-day and develop coping strategies that are flexible than to put too much emphasis on predictions. That actually might help us get a better outcome.

(53,410 posts)Trump is the catalyst of the destruction of the old normal, which I think is months, if not years ahead of us. We are living through the first Coronavirus spread and even if we have hope to recover from this one, unfortunately Trump is removing the barriers against it. We are just starting a second resurgence in his never ending failure to stem the spread. So the states will have to shut down again. If nothing else the population will die off or choose to stay home. Then Faucis assertion that at least another two waves will occur will happen.
Perhaps President Biden will be able to salvage as much as possible, and also set a good plan in motion to create that new normal we can live in.
Its important that we remember that a vaccine is supposed to be developed for use well into Bidens first term. Lets hope his Administration is strong, wise and abiding.

Also will he cheat along with trying to close post office this year? If we can vote by mail fairly I think he doesnt have a chance.
