(34,661 posts)We will have a single payer National Insurance Program when all is said and done. The Employer based model is not working as promoted for millions of folks. Covid-19 has blown wide open the problems associated with the Employer Model.

(38,187 posts)I don't have much faith in humanity as it is. I have even less faith in humanity ever happening in America. We are still too full of Republicans for anything good to ever happen again in my lifetime. And Obama was the one good thing that did happen. I wish I could develop more faith in humanity, but I live in the Bible Belt in Trumpland. That is not likely to ever change their minds. They would vote to cut off their own noses if it "sticks it to the liberals."

(4,845 posts)My dad rather go uninsured (with monthly medicines that he needs) rather than using ObamaCare.
They blame the overpriced health care on Obama somehow, but not the healthcare system.
This is especially bad because we are immigrants from another country that had government tax-based health care. I keep saying it's a problem with employer based health care but they loved their employer based health care (even though he is now layoff).
They now know employers pay 80% toward their healthcare so they think the employers are great without realizing that without the healthcare cost on the employers, they can offer a high base salary. And like the country I used to live in, employers can still offer premium healthcare (on top of the government based system) if they want to entice the employee.

(54,770 posts)one could argue government is not in a position to pay for it.
In any event, what I think is more likely to happen is expanded Medicaid coverage for those who didnt qualify before, more subsidies for ACA, and maybe a Public Option.
With expanded Medicaid and more subsidies for ACA, we could cover the 30 to 40% at lowest income levels, another 15 to 20% with partial subsidies, everyone else pays for it with/without help of employer (employers could choose PO, and many would if really cheaper).
