Blacks predominate in the NYPDs enforcement of social distancing violations in Brooklyn, according to data released by District Attorney Eric Gonzalez on Thursday.
Between March 17 and May 4, the NYPD made 40 social distancing arrests in Brooklyn and 35 of them were of black suspects, Gonzalezs analysis showed. Four were Hispanic, while just one was white.
The data comes as police critics compared the citys social distancing policies to stop-and-frisk arrests during former Mayor Mike Bloombergs administration. They accuse the NYPD of focusing on poor and minority neighborhoods.
Sixteen of the arrests 40% of the total were in the 73rd Precinct, which covers the Brownsville. Five people were arrested in East New Yorks 75th Precinct, and another five took place in Bedford-Stuyvesants 79th Precinct.
