Sweden gives America a glimpse of its future, its not looking good so far.

Looks like we're on the same path as Sweden and the doctor who is leading the Pandemic response there is betting on Herd immunity and calls the number of deaths "horrifying"; this doctor is stupid.

SWEDEN'S CORONAVIRUS DEATH TOLL 'HORRIFYING' SAYS SCIENTIST BEHIND COUNTRY'S ANTI-LOCKDOWN STRATEGY

https://www.newsweek.com/sweden-coronavirus-deaths-children-lockdown-1502548

Tegnell, who has been leading the country's COVID-19 response and previously defended the nation's decision not to impose a lockdown, this week admitted he was "not convinced" the unconventional anti-lockdown strategy was the best option to take.

Bottom line the US is going to be pretty much following the same track as Sweden has been following for a while and we're doing it for the sake of the economy ... so how's that working out for Sweden?

Sweden had no lockdown but its economy is expected to suffer just as badly as its European neighbors

https://www.cnbc.com/2020/04/30/coronavirus-sweden-economy-to-contract-as-severely-as-the-rest-of-europe.html

Nonetheless, data released from the country’s central bank and a leading Swedish think tank show that the economy will be just as badly hit as its European neighbors, if not worse.

And just to drive the main point of the economy is going to hurt anyway home, China is out of the soup and the country is literally .. PAYING .. people to go shopping and its not working.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-china-retail/as-china-splashes-out-vouchers-to-revive-retail-many-just-buy-necessities-idUSKBN2230SI

BEIJING (Reuters) - China is handing out billions of yuan in shopping coupons to support retailers crushed by the COVID-19 outbreak, but the subsidies are doing little to support the kind of discretionary spending needed to revive the economy.

Sooooo, lets recap ... Trump is stupid and this "reopen" shit is going to get a lot of people killed for nothing.

Any questions?

Your take?

1. It's common sense. You can open the stores but you can't make people patronize them.

Whether you open or close, the economic result is the same. But to be open means more death.

... is out of the soup and people just don't want to go out and bust wallets with little money in the bank.

I think this is another reason why Red Don wants everyone out now; cause if we extend the NPI past July then the economy starts to hurt even more.

4. Deaths will go up around Memorial Day

Things are opening up now, so with a three-week lag, I predict a large increase in the death toll in about three weeks. We may or may not see a large increase in reported cases between now and then because that’s dependent on testing. When the death toll increases, I predict:

* Who could have predicted this?
* It’s the fault of Clinton, Obama, Fauci!
* Look over there!

8. What pisses me off is we never hear if things went bad

For example Wisconsin had 40 exposed to Election Day but no deaths. Easter Sunday had 10 pastors die but no out break on parishioners. The whole thing is a crap shoot. So frustrating.

6. We are being bamboozled with a False Dichotomy Fallacy.

We are presented with the choice between 'economic disaster' vs 'health disaster'. As this article makes clear, we are in an economic disaster regardless of wether we are in a 'mandatory shutdown' or 'open for business'.

People with common sense, currently 60-70% of the population in the US, are in a voluntary lockdown, because they understand that every human interaction increases the risk of infection, they understand that this virus is deadly, they understand that it is highly contagious.

Those 'open' businesses are going to be lacking 'customers'. For many retail businesses the operational costs for being 'open' will incur greater losses than if they were closed. The economic depression will continue until either a vaccine is widely available or we have gained herd immunity by infecting 60-70% of the population. Either way, the economic disaster will continue for months, perhaps more than a year.

The real choice is how to maintain a minimally functioning economy, how to keep people safe, with food clothing and shelter, while we are in this crisis, and right now we are barely even having this discussion.
