Trump downplays record unemployment numbers, says 'all' jobs back 'very soon'

President Donald Trump on Friday downplayed April's 14.7% unemployment rate amid the coronavirus pandemic, claiming that "those jobs will be back and they'll be back very soon. It's fully expected, there's no surprise, everybody knows this."

He sought to deflect any blame that could be assigned to him as president and expressed optimism for an economic comeback. “It's fully expected there's no surprise, everybody knows this. Somebody said ‘oh, look at this.’ Well, even the Democrats aren't blaming me for that but what I can do is I'll bring it back,” Trump said.

The president continued to hit his message that the country has to view themselves as “warriors” and get back to work, optimistically predicting a strong comeback.

“Those jobs will all be back and they'll be back very soon and next year we're going to have a phenomenal year. People are ready to go. We've got to get it open. People are ready to go," he said.

Defending his own performance, Trump said: “We were the envy of the world, and then they came in and they explained it and they said sir, you have to turn it off. We have to close the country, and I said ‘Say it again.’ They said, ‘sir, you have to close the country.’”

First you’ll get a job then another then a better job.

And more pay. Much more, beautiful pay from those great new jobs you get.

It's going to be quite the opposite for most people.

fragile business's that were already working on thin margins are packing up and closing down. Some national and regional chains. They were far from healthy to begin with. Many other places will bring back a limited amount of people.

And if businesses do open up, expect automation/AI to step in for human capacity. I suspect many businesses are using this shutdown to think "gee, we arelly didn't need all those people."

When is "very soon," Sir? I know you like it when people call you "sir." When is "very soon"? June 1, September 1, December 1? What year? When is "very soon"? You're screwing around with people's lives, and giving false hope. When it doesn't pan out, as it never does with your lying-ass predictions, people get more scared and more distrustful, and the next thing you know, some poor minimum-wage schlub is dodging bullets in McDonald's because you wound up some unstable individuals and got them all worked up over nothing. The only thing they have left is violence.

So when is "very soon"?

is going to be his playbook all the way up to the election. Any moron could look around and tell its going to be a long time before this country ever has a "phenomenal year" again. He must be banking his election chances on all those working class voters he was able to convince were so much better off economically after they got his "historical" tax cut.

And then 5 years later? Boom. The Great Depression. Don't think that it won't happen again.
