Florida tried to black out death records from medical examiners that have never been kept secret before. They messed up the redaction and we could read them anyway - and got a window into the many ways the unrelenting coronavirus has found to cause death.

They just keep beating this story in spite of the holes in her story and knowing that it is most likely a ploy by Bernie supporters to force Biden to drop out so their guy can become the nominee. In late April the Florida state health department told medical examiners to not report corona deaths.

Dr. Stephen Nelson, the chairman of the state Medical Examiners Commission, said the change in policy came after the state health department intervened.

The medical examiners’ list does not include names. But it provides demographic information, probable cause of death and case summaries with information about each person’s medical and travel history.

Nelson — who is also the medical examiner for Polk, Highlands and Hardee counties — said state officials told him they plan to remove causes of death and case descriptions. Without that information, the list is meaningless, he said.

Nelson said he believes the entirety of the list is public information — a stance supported by Florida public records experts.

“This is no different than any other public record we deal with,” Nelson said. “It’s paid for by taxpayer dollars and the taxpayers have a right to know.”

Provisional figures released by the state health department show that at least 5,000 people have died from respiratory illnesses in 2020 so far. Many almost certainly died from the seasonal flu, and the state did not answer questions about what period the data covers, making it difficult to compare to prior years.

Not wanting to know, and not wanting Floridians and the nation to know, are the reasons.
