FLIPPABLE: Ethan Brownell for ME-HD106

We need to invest in our schools. The state of Maine needs to finally meet the legally mandated funding commitment of 55% to alleviate burden on local taxpayers. In doing so, we can make sure that schools have adequate support staff for whole-child development. Lastly, we need to make sure that we are empowering teachers and students in their classrooms and in the community.

Maine could be on the cutting-edge of green technology and sustainable living. With new avenues of renewable energy development, we have the opportunity to invest in and promote Maine businesses and research institutions that are developing renewable energy infrastructure and develop a workforce ready to meet the demand. We need to be sure that more Mainers have access to these options by increasing incentives to purchase solar power generation and electric vehicles. Maine also needs to boost its connectivity to compete on the global stage, support families, and ensure equity in our schools. The digital divide is exacerbated in Maine, where fewer companies providing high-quality broadband means fewer options and higher prices for Mainers.

We need to support the health and wellness of all Mainers - especially the most vulnerable. We need to find solutions to make healthcare affordable and sustainable, all while putting people over profits. Working families need to know that their loved ones are safe, healthy, and fulfilled. In Maine, we face the challenge of caring for an aging population that needs access to care - in facilities and at home. Similarly, our youngest Mainers need to be cared for as well, by ensuring that all families have access to affordable, high-quality childcare. School-aged children need to have access to after school and summer learning programs to keep them fed, engaged, and safe.
