trump's approval rate is 43.5%
His disapproval rate is 51.5%
WTF! I mean WTFF!
Virtually unchanged.
You mean to tell me that 43.5% of Murikans are actually approving that creature?
If Biden wins... and there is no certainty there... we STILL have to deal with that 43.5%.
And the aftermath of the virus... or the aftermath of the second - or third - wave of virus.
And the various economic disasters that are hitting us.
For the first time in my 60 years of following our history and politics, I fear for the survival of the country.

(16,646 posts)This is May, the deciding population will make their decision in October. They often stick with the status quo right up until the end and then decide to switch. After that, they tend to stay with the new guy for a long time.

(16,646 posts)Alot of people have to wrap their heads around the fact that they voted for, and supported, an idiot that killed hundreds of thousands. That not only takes time, but it takes having people they know personally get sick, injured, and maybe even die. The Shrub suffered because ultimately soldiers came home without limbs and lives and mental health, and people who knew them began to understand what had been done. It took years, but by the end of his administration, he wasn't even invited to the GOP nominating convention. 4 years later his own brother had to admit to the mistake that had been made.

(7,447 posts)Add up all the nightly viewers of the three cable networks. Little over 6 million. That's 5 percent of all voters in the general election.
Network nightly news is another 24 million ish. That's 30 million total out of 120+ million who vote in the GE.
That's a quarter of voters. That means 75 percent ish don't watch cable or network nightly news. Plenty of room in there for 10-15 percent of people who simply do not consume much news at all to fall into the 43 percent.
Just a lot of people not paying attention at all.

(9,090 posts)stations that reach 50mil a week. in 40 statess with 80 senators there are no free easy alternatives for politics while driving working or doing chores - political talk radio is it and 95% of it is a well coordinated protected walmart type monopoly
that includes his hardcore base of dittoheads and then a shitload of people who are too stupid, busy, or apathetic to do their own research and in many cases depend on the hard core (family, neighbors, friends etc) to deliver the bullshit to them with certitude
not long ago the polls showed about 25% of americans get most of their news from radio.
yet the dumbfuck polling cos don't poll for talk radio in trump support even though trump and limbaugh are heavily connected
and in any national emergency those radio stations become even more important
ignoring talk radio continues to be the biggest political mistake in history

(23,191 posts)who a) can't grasp complexities, thus demand simplistic "solutions" and b) wanna stick it to the pointy-haided libruls & byurrocrats & demmuhcrats.
That accounts for pretty much all of 'em.

(38,414 posts)Trump and his upcoming loss. Or, perhaps he will resign. November is 25 weeks away...
No one knows what it will be like in November...Hopefully we will all see.

(10,667 posts)don't want to carry that burden with them from now until November. But in November when they step into that booth or stare at their mail-in ballot in private, many will vote for Biden. They'll still be MAGATs, but they'll be MAGATs who voted for Biden.

(7,220 posts)It's not going to be safe to vote in person, and given the way things are going, we'll have a lot more people dead by then. The economy is going to be FAR from anything resembling normal. People will be clamoring for "normal", for responsible adults with different ideas, since all the ideas we're hearing about now will have been proven disastrous by November.

(52,164 posts)i think there are a lot of people who "approve" of the president as a matter of course, or at least "approve" of a republican president as a matter of course, and stopped listening to the news, or at least stopped caring what donnie says or does.
i think there are a lot of people who don't realize how horrible he is because they haven't been paying attention.

(21,549 posts)"approve" is not the same thing as "will be voting for". there are people that approve now that plan on voting for Biden.

I know someone who hates the way Trump acts, but will be voting for him because of the Supreme Court.

(5,366 posts)there is nothing anything or anyone can do, not even Trump's dismal performance, that can change their minds.
Heads full of concrete. 'Own the libs' foremost in their minds. Even onto their own deaths from starvation or the virus. That is all.

(365 posts)Trump hates the same people those groups hate. Remember the LBJ quote?
"If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you
