Is there anything left of our federal government executive branch that is functioning?

I understand that applications can take a month in normal times, but several months for a renewal? Thats different.
What happened to these jobs, anyway. Are they getting paid? Laid off? Replaced with trump sycophants who do what they do best, which is to do nothing?

(33,643 posts)Apparently they sent it to a version of my zipcode starting with a 9 instead of an 8, which is near Stockton, CA instead of Phoenix. And apparently before they were able to correct the problem and resend it ... everything shut down.
I did get the passport though ... like early February. I rather want the Cert back, it cost quite a bit to get once all was said and done.

(10,885 posts)I have my renewal application filled out with check written. All I needed was to get my photo taken at the Post Office and send it out, but then we got into shutdown. It's a good thing we can't really travel now b/c my passport expires in three months, so is virtually a no go.

(9,662 posts)Haven't heard a thing except "expect significant delays". Using the expedited service may have helped, don't know.
I really don't like my birth certificate out there on some nameless desk or file system. I'd love to get just that back.

It pains me to see this become reality, although I absolutely did not see a pandemic shutting down travel. I don't expect to travel anywhere by plane in the foreseeable future. My current passport will expire in 2026.

(54,329 posts)This is a problem, because I need it constantly for travel, and you're not supposed to use it less than 6 months prior to expiration.
I WAS planning to pay for an expedited renewal when I visited the USA this summer, but I have to be back over here by September 1 at the latest. "A few months delay" is a no-go for me. I hope there is a way to get this done. I doubt I'll be able to expect any help from Cornyn or Cruz.
