By Emily Singer -May 12, 2020 9:28 AM
It has been widely reported that the Obama administration left Trump a 69-page pandemic playbook.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell went on a Trump campaign live stream Monday night and falsely claimed that former President Barack Obama left Donald Trump without any plan to handle a future pandemic.
"Clearly the Obama administration did not leave to this administration, any kind of game plan for something like this," McConnell said in an interview with Trump's daughter-in-law Lara Trump.
That claim is untrue.
The Obama administration quite literally left Trump with a pandemic playbook which Trump ignored.

(20,996 posts)...MoscowMitch knows what he's saying is not true. MoscowMitch also knows that if he tells the truth, HE and the Congressional GOP* will have to tell the American people HOW THEY ALLOWED a toxic, sociopathic monster to run roughshod all over the Constitution. in other words, MoscowMitchMcTraitor is way too deep.

(5,969 posts)it's a stupid argument anyways. First, you are the President in your final year and ask that someone should have held your hand like a little kid? Secondly, then Obama could argue that the Bush admin didn't leave him anything he could have given to Trump.

(4,123 posts)Is because they, quite literally, dont have any reasonable defense for their ineptitude. The Obama transition team actually game-planned a pandemic scenario with the incoming Trump folks. Furthermore, this didnt happen in Trumps first months on the job, it happened in his third fucking year. Anything that happens that late in a presidency is on the incumbent.

(182,271 posts)as you know. No coverage because its all nerdy and science n stuff. Trump doesnt plan or manage. He sells and moves on to the next project. This has nothing to do with him so he doesnt give a rip about it. Still SOMEONE should have been on this.....other than ripping apart all the established parts. Post #3 above.

(33,915 posts)That's why candidates get access to a whole host of things once they become a major party candidate. It is part of the peaceful transition of power, so our country doesn't fall apart while the new guy figures out which end is up. Each president owes this not to their successor, but to the country.
And yes, even though i don't have a list of what Bush left for Obama, it almost certainly included a pandemic plan.

(63,221 posts)Mitch is such a hypocrite! Can you imagine if a Democrat effed up this badly after being in office for 3.5 years and tried to blame the previous republican president for not leaving him "instructions"? What a pathetic, lame ass, useless bunch of people!

(37,206 posts)If Obama had not put things in place, trump would not have had to dismantle them and start over using something different. He could have done exactly what Obama would have done and taken credit for it.
So yes, it's Obama's fault.

(59,474 posts)Instead, he cut the CDC, the NIH etc. In 2009, Obama worked to stimulate a failing economy, rescue.the auto industries and kept the country's economy an that of the world, from going off the cliff. He wasted no time listing all the things his predecessors that led to the collapse.
The fact is that Obama DID step up domestically and internationally on Ebola, created an office in the WH to coordinate response and then after the threat was under control, sponsored a major WH effort to identify best practices and to write up a comprehensive plan.
Trump via John Bolton eliminated that office and he then paid no attention to the playbook. It is on Trump that he did nothing other than his very porous bans for China, that still allowed over 100,000 people into the US and a later European ban. He FOUGHT Washington state from testing early community spread cases. What is completely clear now is that the horse was out of the barn before his hand, Not to mention returning AMERICANS from China and Europe were the source of the virus.
He glances China for not being transparent in December, but his own January thru March comments were FAR worse in hiding what he knew about the problem. At a time where integrity, honesty and transparency is needed to lead the country to make whatever sacrifices are needed, we have a president engaged in conspiracy theories, lies and anger.

(16,817 posts)Obama's team left them the NSC Pandemic Response handbook which they haven't followed, they had a rapid response team which Trump disbanded, they held "war games" exercises with the incoming Trump administration officials and they blew it off because it was boring...again and again and again Trump has undermined the possible pandemic response in this country and now that its slapping him in the face his lackeys like McTurtle are just yawing away about how it's all Obama's fault. Such a colossal lie and absolute horse shit. Fuck every one of these bastards. They are actively destroying our country and think feeding their base red meat to keep their control is the answer. I hope we can rise up against this crap and wake our country up to the threat we are facing, not just from coronavirus.
