(32,489 posts)Clinton v Jones was the biggest mistake of ReTHUGs lives.
They fucked themselves big time back then.

(12,817 posts)Kavanaugh is looking for a way to let Trump off. He is quoting Breyer's dissent in the Clinton-Jones case.
What a joke.

(42,383 posts)He wrote a concurring opinion that distinguished between criminal cases and civil cases and concluded that "I agree with the majority that there is no automatic temporary immunity and that the President should have to provide the District Court with a reasoned explanation of why the immunity is needed."

(9,948 posts)I hope they vote 5-4 to release Trump's financials, but it'll probably go the other way...to avoid bad publicity for Republicans.

(11,438 posts)If they decide in favor of Trump and the hypotheticals argument, they further erode their tattered legacy and truly look to be even more partisan hacks. If they decide against Trump, there will be vengeance from the White House. Rough day at the office...
malaise
(267,835 posts)They will also undermine their own power
dlk
(11,438 posts)If they decide in favor of Trump, they are taking another giant leap toward an imperial presidency. Its one thing when the president is from your party, but quite another when the president is from the other side. Will they take a step toward kneecapping their authority? They may. Well know soon enough.
Proud Liberal Dem
(24,355 posts)but alas we all know how it apparently works with Trump and his "Mean Girl" act

(251 posts)They will find some deceptive way to support slimeball Trump. Those conservatives on the court are sinister.
That's why it was so vital to get Biden as the candidate( stupid progressives hear that) so the SCOTUS can be ballanced again or even just a small minority of Liberals maintained on it.

(7,134 posts)Been down this road too many times. Even here: The lawyers/legal system/courts - got this!
Bunk. Judge Walton was a disaster with Manafort. Mueller was a HUGE disaster. Judge Sullivan has been very good but now neutered by Bill Barr.
How many DoJ prosecutors resigned over Roger Stone? How many THOUSANDS of lawyers and FORMER DoJ career lawyers have screamed about Stone and Flynn? And got...what?
There is a reason the Reich spends more time packing the courts than they do on tax cuts.
PS: SCOTUS today heard the case of Congress demand for Trumps tax returns. From what I have read so far, Im betting Trump, 5:4 decision.
Care to bet...?
