Cases of the novel coronavirus in Russia have reached over 232,200, as the country begins easing lockdown measures from Tuesday. The country saw nearly 10,900 new infections on Tuesday, while the death toll stands at 2,116, according to the latest figures from Johns Hopkins University.
The country's total confirmed cases has overtaken that of Spain, just a day after it overtook the total infections in Italy and the U.K.
The latest spike marks Russia's 10th consecutive day of more than 10,000 daily new cases, including 11,656 new cases recorded on Monday, its highest increase since the outbreak began, according to figures published on the website of the Russian government.
Over half of the country's cases and deaths are in Moscow, the Russian capital. The city has 121,301 confirmed cases and 1,179 fatalities to date, according to figures published on the website of Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.

(22,112 posts)categories, etc. All this is doing, is burying or hiding the true impact of the CV, and thus, diverting a critical component away from those that need to see the true impact of the CV on populations in order to address and treat the CV epidemic. Politics needs to get out of the way, otherwise, it's going to steamroll into those that are denying the true stats and impact of the CV.

The Tampa paper did a whole investigation on how the state of fla death numbers did not jive with the medical examiners count.. Solution?? stop the medical examiners from publishing the numbers...... makes 'em look bad....... uffda

(630 posts)It's bad enough that we have a federal government led by liars and a (generally) weak-kneed news media.
But in Russia the cultural of lying is wide, deep and profound, and is going to kill people like Chernobyl on steroids.
Think about it. Their central government is incentivized to lie in order to maintain control (both real and the perception of it). Mid-level bureaucracy is incentivized to lie in order to please superiors. Persons positive for the virus are incentivized to lie out of fear of being punished if their illness is an inconvenient truth. Business will lie to maintain business.
