His quote should be repeated until it is embedded in their tiny brains:

"I don’t appreciate Joe Blow coming in here and whoring around the dining room for votes."

If blowhards need to meet the public they should do it on their own time, on public property, and not take a big bite out of a restuarant owner's business, and the patrons' limited meal time.

but they're followed by a raving hoard of staffers and media who take over the place.

There was a local news article about exactly that happening at a diner in Tilton NH. Sorry, don't have a link, local rag. The manager was quoted calling Romney and the mob names more often seen on latrine walls. Waitress were pushed out of way, dishes broken, customers couldn't be served.

I imagine Mr Colby heard about it and decided enough is enough.

If politicians running for office want to do a 'meet and greet' they should rent a space to do so or use donated space and pay to advertise such a 'meet and greet' instead of barging in on small businesses whose customers want a nice, quiet meal, or want to purchase something from, say, a gift shop.

There is an inherent arrogance in the politicians who do the barging in that they think nothing of interrupting businesses and their customers.
