(CNN)The US is upping military pressure on China amid increased tensions over the South China Sea and accusing Beijing of seeking to leverage the coronavirus pandemic to extend its sphere of influence in the region.
Over the last few weeks US Navy ships and Air Force B-1 bombers have undertaken missions aimed at sending a very public message that the US military intends to maintain a presence in the region and reassure allies.
It's also a top priority for the Pentagon to get the virus-stricken aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt back out to sea in the region by as soon as the end of the month.
The moves come as the US is increasing the pressure diplomatically with President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo publicly attacking Beijing for failing to stem the virus's spread and not being transparent during the early stages of the outbreak which originated in the country.

(12,712 posts)Another one of those things you should never have to say about a sitting President, (insert expletive in there):
I don't know who is more dangerous in that situation, Trump or China. A rouge President is not an asset at all in a tense situation. He is a liability, dangerous and a threat to national security in every situation.

(16,646 posts)Believe it or not, everything is not about Trump. China has been dangerous for a long time. It's one of the reasons why Obama was desperate to negotiate the TPP. He was hoping to isolate China as much as possible. I wasn't a big fan of that treaty, but I understood his aims. Trump is just the "wrong" person and the "wrong" time to be dealing with China's dangerousness. The Pentagon is continuing to confront China and Trump isn't blocking them because he sees it as unconnected to his economic goals, which is actually probably true, for now.
What we all know is that we can't rely upon Trump to deal with this, and yet we have to understand that we must let the Pentagon aggressively deal with this continuing emerging situation. It is one of the many reasons that it is imperative that a democrat must be president going forward. The China situation is going to need SOMEONE who is rational and understanding of the complex world situation. Trump ain't that guy. And Biden is going to need a VP who can step up, on day one, in case the need may be, to handle that situation as well as he can.

(10,823 posts)Because Peters is spot on. This election will define who and what we are as a country.
We need more voices speaking the truth. Donald Trump is the biggest national security threat facing the United States.
It really is that simple. And I agree with Peters' assessment: Trump will do anything to win and save himself.

(51,567 posts)so it will get more views. I didn't post the original one but reposted it after I saw it and said, "Oh my God, this is really going to happen". I think it should be on TV ads since it is so important and relevant. People must know this info ASAP to prepare for it. It sure comes from a great source too.
