Once upon a time, Trump explained matter-of-factly, he was hosting a charity ball at Mar-a-Lago at which several members of the Marine Corps were in attendance, along with a host of rich people "eager to get their picture in the Palm Beach Post," as he put it. Lo and behold, at some point during the evening, an 80-year-old man"very wealthy," Trump adds, but also, "a lot of people didn't like him"fell off the stage and hit his head. Trump thought the man had died. "And you know what I did?"

I said, Oh my God, thats disgusting, and I turned away. I couldntyou know, he was right in front of me, and I turned away. I didnt want to touch him.
As Stern and company yukked it up at this expertly-delivered punchline, Trump continued.
Hes bleeding all over the place, I felt terrible. You know, beautiful marble floor, didnt look like it. It changed color. Became very red.
If you overheard a stranger on the bus saying these things aloud, you'd be wondering if you had stumbled upon the Law and Order: SVU set while they film the standard opening vignette that prompts a concerned bystander to summon Benson and Stabler to the scene.
And you have this poor guy, eighty years old, laying on the floor unconscious, and all the rich people are turning away. Oh my God! This is terrible! This is disgusting! And you know, theyre turning away. Nobody wants to help the guy. His wife is screamingshes sitting right next to him, and shes screaming.

This is a pandemic. I felt it was a pandemic long before it was called a pandemic," Trump said at a press conference with his coronavirus task force. "All you had to do was look at other countries."

Donald Trump has no compassion for living beings, only things. He felt bad for the freaking floor.

(14,803 posts)All this is just more willful ignorance contained within his usual fog of lies. But it was his description of the grief of families meeting the bodies of their dead at Dover Air Force Base that was most illustrative of his abject disdain for human life. They scream, like Ive never seen anything before. Theyll break through military barriers. Theyll run to the coffin and jump on top of the coffin. Crying mothers and wives. Crying desperately.

EXCERPT...
I tend to see my time with him the first part of it, anyway, before things started going bad in a hurry as his King Midas period. I never said this to him; if I had, he probably would have thought I was suggesting he enter the muffler business. But there was a stretch of months when everything he touched turned into a deal. The banks seemed to accept the version of him depicted in his first book, The Art of the Deal, which we now know from his previous ghostwriter, Tony Schwartz, was entirely invented. They believed it over what they saw on his balance sheets or heard coming out of his mouth, and they never said no to his requests for more money. Often they came up with things he could say yes to before he could think of them himself. As a result, a failing real estate developer who had little idea of what he was doing and less interest in doing it once hed held the all-important press conference wound up owning three New Jersey hotel-casinos, the Plaza Hotel, the Eastern Airlines Shuttle and a 281-foot yacht.
A real go-getter, right? But Trumps portfolio did not jibe with what I saw each day which to a surprisingly large extent was him looking at fabric swatches. Indeed, flipping through fabric swatches seemed at times to be his main occupation. Some days he would do it for hours, then take me in what he always called his French military helicopter to Atlantic City where he looked at more fabric swatches or sometimes small samples of wood paneling. It was true that the carpets and drapes at his properties needed to be refreshed frequently, and the seats on the renamed Trump Shuttle required occasional reupholstering. But the main thing about fabric swatches was that they were within his comfort zone whereas, for example, the management of hotels and airlines clearly wasnt. One of his aides once told me that every room at the Plaza could be filled at the rack rate (list price) every night, and the revenue still wouldnt cover the monthly payment of the loan hed taken out to buy the place. In other words, hed made a ridiculous deal. Neither he nor the banks had done the math beforehand. Or perhaps Trump knew it because someone had told him, but didnt want to think about it. The one thing he is above-average at is compartmentalization.

Dinesh DSouza
DSouzaa conservative provocateur and former Reagan adviseris known for his incendiary articles and films, including ones that have focused on Obama-related conspiracy theories. He was convicted in 2014 of making illegal campaign contributions to Wendy Long, a Republican Senate candidate in New York, funneling $20,000 through straw donors to evade campaign finance limits. He was sentenced to five years probation, including eight months of confinement in a community center.
The Trump connection: DSouza claimed that Obamas Justice Department had pursued the case because DSouza had made a movie critical of Obama. A judge at the time called this theory nonsense, but it resonated with Trump. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was among those who lobbied for a pardon for DSouza, which Trump granted in May 2018. Jeanine Pirro, a Fox News host and former judge who is one of Trumps most vocal supporters, applauded it. Roger Stone cited DSouzas pardon as a signal that Trump had the backs of former aides who had been indicted in the Mueller investigation. It has to be a signal to Mike Flynn and Paul Manafort and even Robert S. Mueller III: Indict people for crimes that dont pertain to Russian collusion and this is what could happen, Stone told the Washington Post.

Conrad Black
Black was a media mogul who at one point ran the worlds third-largest newspaper company, which owned papers such as the Chicago Sun-Times and the Daily Telegraph. In 2007in yet another case prosecuted by Patrick FitzgeraldBlack was convicted of obstruction of justice and fraud for swindling his company out of $60 million that should have gone to stockholders. Black served three and a half years in prison, though parts or his conviction were ultimately overturned.
The Trump connection: At Blacks 2007 trial, Trump had been expected to testify that Blacks wifes $62,000 birthday party was a business event, rather than a social gatheringbut Blacks lawyers changed their minds at the last minute. In recent years, Black has become a prolific writer of op-eds praising the president, as well as the sycophantic book Donald J. Trump: A President Like No Other. Rush Limbaugh and Henry Kissinger were among those who pressed Trump to pardon Black; he did so in May 2019.
