Trump threatens to stop funding for Michigan if absentee ballots sent to all voters

TODD SPANGLER | DETROIT FREE PRESS
Updated 44 minutes ago

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Wednesday morning appeared to threaten funding for Michigan amid a global health pandemic if state officials move ahead with plans to send absentee ballot applications to every state voter.

It was far from clear, however, if the president understood what he was talking about.

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson on Tuesday morning said, in a story first reported in the Free Press, she and local clerks will send absentee ballot applications to all of the state's 7.7 million voters so they can, if they choose to do so, take part in the Aug. 4 and Nov. 3 elections without going to polling places. ..........(more)

8. Yep, he was talking about potato crops needing armed guards.

I saw that. Why he is so concerned about potato crops needing armed guards, I don't know. My potato plants in my garden have always grown without someone with a gun standing over them. They have always done just fine too. I don't get the armed guards for potatoes campaign he seems to want to support, launch, make up, or whatever his addled mind is doing. Something is clearly wrong with that man's mind....and the minds of his supporters too. I can almost picture them standing in their gardens now if they grow potatoes to make sure they guard their potato plants. I don't know whether to laugh or cry about that.

7. Trump and his supporters are trying to call absentee ballots "mail in voting."

They don't seem to understand that is how absentee ballots work, most of the time. You can take an absentee ballot to your local elections board, but most mail them. It has always been legal and how absentee ballots work.

Trump has been threatening to cut off funding for "main in voting," but what he is talking about is just absentee ballot applications being sent out to citizens in two states. He is REALLY going to freak out when he finds out absentee ballots get mailed out in all 50 states to citizens who request them. It is perfectly legal, but he is trying to re-frame, re-brand, or rename absentee ballots as "mail in voting" as if it is some illegal scheme meant to keep him from winning.

It would be funny if it wasn't so infuriating how stupid he and his supporters are.

What is worse is that the media doesn't just immediately shut them down with their patent nonsense but adds fuel to the fire and makes it appear that there is a legitimate debate about something that there isn't.

I have a vein sticking out in my neck right about now. I know how absentee ballots work because my aunt always voted that way and I did too, once or twice. Most of the time, I voted in person, because I was physically able to do it. She wasn't physically able to do it, so she always voted by absentee ballot. It's just absentee ballots. Trump and his idiot supporters are trying to make it out to be some new thing and trying to make it out to be illegal when it is not and has never been illegal.

I think I need to go just eat a snack and get off Twitter a while, lol. The stupid is astounding over there. It spreads like wildfire. DU was slow early this morning so I moseyed over there to Twitter. MISTAKE!

Sow confusion, cast blame, force sane people to waste their time defending the quotidian functioning of competent government.

It's quite the effective tactic. The press utterly stymied. They have no clue how to treat his lies except with the respect due the office.

The GOP will use this tactic at every level of Government from here out.

Ask him questions. Questions such as, "Why are you so opposed to the American people voting? Why don't you want to make it easy for citizens to vote? You claim voter fraud, but there is no evidence of anything approaching significant voter fraud outside of Republican insiders like Ann Coulter. Where is your evidence of widespread voter fraud outside of your unsupported statements?"

It's easy!

ballots in NC and doing who knows what with them. They certainly didn't get counted. So, we had to have an election all over again. They got to choose new candidates too, because Harris was so corrupt they didn't want to run him again.

So, now they hate all absentee ballots or anything that resembles them. You would not believe how idiotic Trump's supporters are being over this. On the Nevada governor's Twitter page, some are saying they will refuse to vote if the only way to do it is to vote using the absentee ballot system. I told them that's the spirit. That ought to show that governor. They are kind of slow on the uptake.

13. Trump's absolute fury about absentee and mail-in voting really makes you wonder

whether there were specific shenanigans in Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin last time around apart from the usual voter suppression tactics. I mean, like, out-and-out vote switching with the machines. The rage and tenacity of his response to this is really more troubling than the usual Republican voter suppression operations would suggest.

When it comes to voter fraud, very little has been found through the years in regards to absentee voting. In NC, Republicans stole absentee ballots by going to people's houses and collecting them. We had to have another election because of it. They got to run new candidates, because their candidate got caught. Now, they hate all things even remotely resembling absentee ballots. They got caught.

It is like a kid who got caught grabbing a chocolate chip cookie and decides to hate the cookie for being caught trying to steal it. It's the cookie's fault they got caught. They are kind of slow on the uptake.
