What am I missing? Every state government is in extreme financial jeopardy.

Trump and the Republicans are in no hurry to bail them out. They are desperate to have the economy improve and yet they delay sending aid to the states. Bailout Money already approved for small businesses is just sitting there.

I guess I do not comprehend insanity.

Is to put money in people's pockets that they SPEND on Main Street. But St. Ronnie's Trickle Down BS is still their mantra. No No No! No money for those takers! Only money for the rich folks who put the cash in the Caymans.

Then evaluate and then pass a bill. I’d say that the 3 previous bills need to see if they work too. 3 trillion is out there.

The states have to balance their budgets, and they always do it in the end, albeit sometimes with some financial trickery.

https://ballotpedia.org/State_budget_issues,_2009-2010

Lawmakers in virtually every state scrambled to keep their FY 2009 budgets balanced while at the same time struggling to enact new ones for FY 2010. Hemorrhaging revenues drove the massive difficulties they faced. No matter how pessimistic revenue forecasts were, actual collections seemed to come in lower. This happened over and over and over again. Ultimately, states were not just faced with lower revenue growth rates, they confronted year-over-year declines in actual collections[3].

If it was 2017, I’d agree but it would destroy the economy if the states did this.

It doesn’t destroy the Canadian economy.

Each province runs a deficit.

It’s time the US becomes a confederation again, like 1789-1861.

Those exist at the state levels and can be changed or repealed. States already issue long term bonds for infrastructure and other capital reasons. That’s a deficit.

Just issue more bonds to cover the operational deficits and raise taxes a bit on the wealthy.

Canada is definitely a good template for a well functioning confederation.

Honestly the only reason I said that Canada and u.s. are differentvis because of the constitution, but you’ve explained that states have own rules which throws out my reason. Lol. Well hope the world comes out of this as close to great as possible.

Not only are States in financial jeopardy, the university systems of all 50 States are about to be bankrupted. If there is no college football season, all but a handful of athletic departments will have to close because its the only sport that makes a profit(with the exception to basketball at a handful of schools) and subsequently funds all other sports. All women sports will be eliminated. The sports that are not eliminated will become club sports with no scholarships. 90% of people don't understand this. You can't have "virtual classes" with kids at home. Those dorms have to be filled; those stadiums and arenas have o be filled; people have to park in the parking garages; they have to shop at the bookstores; the local businesses have to have customers. Nobody thought this through before proposing the "only solution" to be closing stuff down. There will be no way to recover from this. You can't just tell all the businesses that depend upon a student population in their city to close down until there is a vaccine. The world doesn't work that way.

Require businesses to send them to state treasuries before the IRS.

Fine them if they don’t comply.
