(130,861 posts)'Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has been selected as the vice chair of a national association for Democratic governors, the group announced this week.
The Democratic Governors Association tapped Lujan Grisham as vice chair of the group at an annual meeting in San Francisco and selected her to chair the association in 2021 a move that could boost her national profile during her expected reelection campaign that year, although her office has said her concerns lie in New Mexico.
The DGA chose New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy as its 2020 chair.'>>>

(569 posts)I was impressed as hell. I don't know anything else about the governor, but she spoke very intelligently and seems like someone capable of getting things done.

(32,609 posts)Did not realize she is the first female Democratic Latina in history to be elected Governor.
jftr - I have known several Lujans and they all self-identify as Native American so I just assumed she was also Native. Love it when my assumptions are wrong. But honestly it is a distinction without much of a difference - just a line on a map. They are all First Americans.

(804 posts)and we Dems here in NM are proud of the way she has handled this crisis. She was formerly our Congresswoman, and prior to that she was NM Secretary of Health. Her background in public health and her medical networking has helped our state tremendously. We have a higher testing rate per capita than do most other states. It seems she was the right leader for these times. She is doing all she can to help our Native communities as well. Even so, there are some of these right wing loonies in our state, especially the half of the state closest to Texas, that tries to undermine her. These people are determined to put profits over people. Fortunately, we are a majority blue state and will stop them.
