The press should do a better job of telling us who people are when they tell us stuff

Two recent, and one past example show us this. Tara Reade, clearly is either delusional a liar, or both. We know that because after some journalists gave her a free pass other journalists did their job and now we know. Other than the original free pass, this is how journalism should work. Now for some other examples.

Norma McCorvey, aka Jane Roe, rather famously had a change of heart about abortion and was used widely to help chip away at abortion rights in this country. Now, on her death bed, she says it was all a con. Even if you don't believe the confession, she was paid over 300k by Evangelical groups and had the receipts to prove it. Shouldn't this have been uncovered in real time. Even if such payments don't prove it was all a con, the existence of those payments seem pretty relevant to me.

Henry Davis Jr. was a relentless critic of Pete Buttigieg's record as mayor of South Bend. He was given reams of news print and hours of tv time. Yet, nearly none of that told us how anti gay Mr. Davis is.

Twice — in 2010 and then again in 2012 — Davis voted against adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the city's human rights ordinance. The measure failed the first time but passed in 2012.

end of quote

Now, motive to lie doesn't equate to proof a person lied. Lying often, doesn't equate to proof of lying on this specific item in this specific moment but shouldn't we know these things. The press needs to do its job.

make yearly, generous ( according to my income) donations to 2 NPR (public radio) stations. If ordinary people supported the news media in this way, they might have the wherewithal to do that kind of probing reporting. Otherwise they depend on the deep pockets of corporate America exclusively, or, like thousands of newspapers and radio stations in recent decades, fold entirely or sell out to Sinclair.

The blame and responsibility lies with US.
