I have to ask . . . am I the only one who thinks this public vetting of vice presidential candidates

by Biden campaign is foolish? All these candidates being considered have a core group that support them. When their favorite is not chosen . . . criticism will come from all corners. I hope I’m wrong, but I just don’t see how this is going to turn out favorably. Thoughts?

I have my opinions as to whether certain choices being floated so far are good or bad but ultimately it will not make one whit of difference to me. The choice we are presented with in November of 2020 is the most stark in my lifetime... perhaps even in our nation's history.

When he wins office he's going to have to move fast. He needs to clean up on aisle 45, so Biden's troops need to hit the ground running. That means it would be helpful if his troops were beyond reproach so he can tell Fox News to get bent with their alternate news.

If his Team is on the ball like Hillary's, they will have a Plum Book, which has every position and every person vetted and ready to go (down to Administrative, Volunteers, etc). Hillary's team was ready to go the day after the 2016 Election so PBO could go on a Farewell Tour and relax.

I have no reason to believe that Joe's Team hasn't/isn't doing the same.

Christy did * Plum Book and was set to go until Jared threw a fit (Christy sentenced Jared's dad to prison) and threw out all of the Plum Book and then Mike Pence took over the transition. Absolutely nothing happened with the new team - for ill or good (depending on which side you fall on), history and time will tell.

Just another reason to have seasoned, ready to go people doing their jobs and being left alone to do their jobs just like Grown Adults.

Like a beauty pageant. Shouldn't have to have a brains pageant. It's still a pageant. Yuck. Focusing on women is just degrading to us women.

We are fighting a million years of evolution and millenea of culture that say to women "men are not your friends" and "bosom buddies are always the same gender". He would have been better off not stating gender and then picking as he saw fit.

That said: I'm never voting for the incumbant, unless the incumbant spot somehow becomes filled by Pelosi.

All we see mostly is Trump and covid stuff so I just thought his campaign is using this to get people thinking about them.

It's damn near impossible to get in a word edge-wise with Trump being the constant story. At least this gets some air-time.

I agree very much with some posters upstream a bit that this whole thing seems like the campaign is parading competing women in front of Biden so he can choose the pick of the litter - very brothel-ish and weird but I guess Joe has to garner attention any way he can.

every cabinet member is stripped down, every blemish, mole, scratch in their entire life is studied, documented and used to form an opinion about whether the incoming President may appoint them. People are not nice, especially when judging others anonymously. They're downright nasty.

He is showing that he will be prepared on Day 1 and I am sure he is finding an important position in his cabinet for all those he is vetting.

And a bunch of the men as well for other positions.

12. They're called trial balloons

This week it’s Klobuchar’s turn.

They gauge public and media reaction.

In some cases (Klobuchar IMO) these trial balloons are feints to please a certain group, to assure them the VP process is thorough and not knee jerk. Both national polls show Klobuchar as a distant 4th choice for Dem voters, behind Abrams, Harris, and Warren, who leads in first place by double digits.

Biden is assembling a team with a broad spectrum of view points, and I am hopeful they will advise him to pick the VP who will give the ticket the best chance of winning (a veeps primary job).

this is only going to accelerate. Our so called Media needs fodder to feed the viewers. This is easy stuff to cover unlike what is happening in the Kiddy Cages of Texas and Arizona. Or how the Natives are living in Squaller on the Reservations because of bad Politics. Or how the Trump Crime Syndicate is ripping off the Taxpayers.

15. Biden campaign isn't publicly announcing, but the VP candidates have confirmed to reporters
Fri May 22, 2020, 01:24 PM
May 2020

Biden himself said he is not in favor of releasing names of those being vetted since it is an invasive process.

I don't believe the reports of who is being vetted are coming from his campaign staff but instead from VP candidates or their staffers who have been dogged by reporters pursuing information about potential VP contenders and have gotten direct confirmation from several or from their staffers.

These are trial balloons to get some idea of how well a particular potential running mate "plays" with voters and party pooh-bahs. When Obama was about to be nominated, a number of possibilities were publicly floated, and the same was true for Clinton. It's a mistake not to do it. McCain, for example, should have done more public vetting before choosing Sarah Palin, who turned out to be a drag on the ticket instead of an asset.

A drawn out VP search adds suspense to an otherwise numbers-driven getting process, aids national name recognition for future candidacies, and above all grabs headlines from dumbass deplorable excuses for presidents doing truly stupid dangerous stuff every single day.
