Asheville gun dealer: People who wear masks to store 'might need a body bag'

ASHEVILLE - The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office is investigating social media comments in which a local gun dealer and former North Carolina correctional officer seemed to threaten to shoot people who enter his store wearing masks.

"I am a Gun Dealer! There's a good chance that if someone walks into my shop wearing a mask, they might appear to be about to commit armed robbery," Darryl Cole wrote in a Facebook comment. "Then, they might need a body bag!"

In a second, unpublished comment, Cole also seemed to threaten Buncombe County commissioners specifically, saying that if one were to enter his store they "might need an ambulance."

The Citizen Times spoke briefly to Cole at 4:23 p.m. May 22, and Cole said he'd be available to discuss the matter in an hour. Two calls at about 5:30 p.m. were not answered.

Buncombe County Sherriff's Office spokesperson Aaron Sarver confirmed the office was looking into the matter.

and aw shucks what the heck, just expressing my gawd-given 2nd Amendment rights. But show up with a protective mask during a pandemic and you must be a criminal asking to be killed. Asheville has a reputation as a fairly progressive town. I'm speculating that this jerk did his business very little good with his stupidly hostile remarks.
