I use "Adblock Plus" on my browser, I was sick of all the pop up, pop under, and autorun video ads, in addition to all the others.
Just now, I looked at "Crook and Liars," it's a great web site.
But my ad blocker indicated it had blocked 128 ads!
Not making that up!
And I am so sick of web sites that whine about me using an ad blocker, then block me seeing an article or whatnot, any further.
On TV, the channel that seems to be the worst when it comes to numbers of ads is TBS.
Thankfully I have a DVR.
And the ads themselves are getting worse.
Now they are advertising prescription drugs for AIDS!

They kept threatening me over possible "reductions in service" if I didn't subscribe to their ad-free service or accept a more basic service. So I went ahead and shut off my ad blockers on their site. All is well now, the few ads I see aren't obtrusive and I still have the service I want without paying for it...

It's just like here. It costs money to tun the site and pay the people who work and write for it.
Without some rich sugardaddy bankrolling it, they have to generate revenue. That boils down to ads and subscriptions. Subscriptions lat you go ad-free.
It beats a solid paywall.
