The New York Times has done an article on the nearly 100,000 people who have died from COVID-19 within the span of 2-1/2 months.

I went to the website, just to see what it's about. It's impossible to recognize everyone, so they just recognize one out of 100. I started scrolling. And I scrolled some more. And scrolled some more, and noticed that the sidebar had barely moved. And there was a little ticker on the side that said that I had scrolled through 6700 names. I had barely put a dent in it.

.We wear the mask for a reason.

By Wednesday, we will probably hit 100,000 dead. More than 9/11, more than the Vietnam War, more than Gulf War + Afghanistan + Iraq combined. almost as many as World War I. We will probably surpass that figure by June 15th. All in the span of 3 months. Sometimes 2000 per day.
We wear the mask for a reason.
1.5 million people are testing positive - and if they are asymptomatic, they are carriers. You may know someone who has it. But you don't know who. And you don't know if you'll be exposed, and you don't know if it will make you mildly sick, very sick, deathly ill... or dead.

Please wear the mask.

(23,487 posts)they took the news that it's harder to get Covid when you are outside and just ran with it.
I went to a social gathering and NO ONE was wearing a mask except me. No one was social distancing except me.
It was very awkward.

(34,001 posts)I had the same experience of scrolling forever, then looking at the date and noting how early in the pandemic I still was.
And those named are 1 in 100. For every person named, there are 99 others whose lives we are left to imagine.
The uncle/brother of several friends of mine is one of the 1000 listed. Other names are taken from the daily newspaper of the closest city to rural Nebraska farm where I grew up.

(6,423 posts)I await the first video of that exchange of MACE TO FACE of a mask challenger.
The dumb nerve of some people is just wacko, I've noticed broken noses on most of them, and I'm gonna be prejudice against that from now on, just means I will not be friends or in your air space for very long at all, keep in mind that requires you also be a dumb ass in front of me, me involved directly, optional MF!
I was drunk/high should not be acceptable excuse, either, that's fucking irresponsible right there as well, tack that on to their TAB?
