Trump: 'This is so unfair to me! Everything was going great. We were cruising to reelection!"

Vanity Fair:

As he headed into Memorial Day weekend, Donald Trump complained that he was COVID-19’s biggest victim. “He was just in a fucking rage,” said a person who spoke with Trump late last week. “He was saying, ‘This is so unfair to me! Everything was going great. We were cruising to reelection!” Even as the death toll neared 100,000 and unemployment ranks swelled to over 38 million, Trump couldn’t see the pandemic as anything other than something that had happened to him. “The problem is he has no empathy,” the adviser said. Trump complained that he should have been warned about the virus sooner. “The intelligence community let me down!” he said.

Richard Dawkins wrote of “evolutionary stable strategies” (ESS) in the Selfish Gene. Basically evolution (temporarily) settles on a certain mix of genes that serve the set of genes well when competing with other sets. He uses as an example selfishness vs. altruism.

If everyone was altruistic we’d all jump to our doom in icy waters to save another, no one survives. Conversely, if everyone was selfish other sets of genes would surpass us as we fiercely battle eachother for scarce resources. What works out best, Dawkins suggested, is a mix - say, 20% selfish and 80% altruistic - that propels the set forward until environmental changes require a different mix.

Perhaps our mix of sociopaths vs the rest of us served us for a time, pulled us out of the caves and into the fields. But maybe not so much anymore. Not when so much power and influence concentrates into the hands of a small group of white men. Not when we’re all threatened by climate change and global pandemics. Time for change, I think.

and totally lose control, only to be restrained by the very Secret Service that is intended to protect him.

I want to see his nostrils flare, his lips sneer, his eyes bulge, and his color turn to magenta. Then he needs to be wrestled to the floor, dragged from the room, and taken far, far away.

It won't be long before he can't keep the rage in and control it until he can lock himself out of public view. It'll bubble up inside him, his face will contort, and he'll lose it completely.

I'll be DVRing that to watch over and over and over...

it's almost as if people are still expecting him to change. the media keeps asking why is he like this. well, he can't change y'all. empathy is beyond him, he will never care about anything or anybody but himself, and he's crashing. He's losing! and fuck all those dead people, this just cannot happen.

it can happen. for the country it must.

sometimes i go comment on his tweets just to let off steam. more than once I have warned that man that just because he's always gotten away with it doesn't mean he always will. you know, he just didn't listen. go figure.

And when it hit, he didn't know what to do. Because he doesn't know how to lead. In my state, California, even my Republican relatives are saying Gavin Newsome knows how to take charge and deal with a crisis.
