General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI don't care what Joe Scarborough, Rick Wilson, David Frum or Bill Kristol did in the past...
If they are going to assist in getting Trump out of office, their past right now is irrelevant to me.
I don't have to like 'em or support 'em to see that they are an ally right now - and whatever tools they bring to this fight I am okay with just as long as the end result is getting rid of this cancer in the White House.
Then we can go back to hating 'em - just as they can go back to hating Democrats, I guess.

(8,419 posts)On his Repuke past. Steve claimed it was due to his upbringing. Raised Catholic, his Cardinal was a pedophile. So he stuck with the Repukes because he wasnt going to give up on another institution.
I will take him at his word. But all former Repukes should be forced to explain why the stuck with the racist, anti American party.
Hating tRump is a start. But admitting mistakes makes them clean.

(8,038 posts)Steve Schmidt and Al Franken and Al REALLY did ask him some hard questions (and Al was so professional and polite). They had a very enlightening, insightful, and in depth conversation. I had posted on DU last Friday that Steve Schmidt was going to be on Stephanie Miller's podcast happy hour later that day (5/22) and someone here on DU told me about the Al Franken interview. It was excellent and I strongly recommend everyone who can to listen to it.

(63,221 posts)I feel exactly the same way. If they are working against Trump now, I could give a damn what they did before.
As long as they are causing a maximum amount of damage to him and his reputation, I welcome them. The enemy of my enemy is my friend. For now.
I am a pragmatist. Idealism has gotten us nowhere. This is a fight for the soul of our nation and right now, getting rid of Trump is goal #1. Flipping the Senate should be goal #2. Then we can take on the rest of it.

Sadly, they are being dragged down by the whinging bloviators and sniveling slackers of the "BASE".

(4,533 posts)I have always thought he might be right and I might be wrong when he took a position I disagreed with. I always gave serious consideration to his arguments. And Kristol often admitted the true reasons for his beliefs even when he knew his reasons would be negatively viewed. When the Republican Party is dead as a national party, maybe 10 years from now, hopefully the replacement will give important roles to people like David Frum.

the talk radio monopoly was built around limbaugh and it's going to start falling apart when the ignorant racist liar croaks. democrats can hurry it up just by stopping ignring it
the gop pols and media and the russian social media trolling depends on 1500 coordinated well-functioning llimbaugh-led radio stations and the advertising industry is going to have to break it up when they know americans won't stand for 1500 radio stations licensed to operate in the public interest yelling HOAX in a COVID theater

I really enjoy David Frum's wicked pen, and Rick Wilson's enthusiasm and twisted humor.
I wouldn't know Joe Scarborough if he bit me it the butt. Maybe I need to get out more.

(10,828 posts)Anyone, anywhere, from any camp who is all-in to defeat Donald Trump is an ally at this moment in time.
As you said, we can get back to the normal catfighting after Trump and his odious crew are soundly defeated, the stable is thoroughly cleaned (that includes the lickspittle Republicans who supported Trump and his policies, even when they knew they were wrong, immoral and indecent or made excuses that 'some' of his policies were worthy, as in judicial appointments and tax cuts for the rich).
They all need to be gone because they've proven themselves as saboteurs to our Democratic Republic, willing to destroy the rule of law and our institutions. They no longer represent the loyal opposition; they're the enemy inside the tent.
The Never-Trumpers are never going to turn into Dems. But they make great ads and despise Trumphumpers as much as we do. So, let them fight the good fight, shoulder-to-shoulder with us and anyone else who wants to be on the right side of history.
Let's get this done!
