So I went to my grocery store today, first time in two weeks. There was nobody limiting entry. Or wiping down the carts, but there was a sign respectfully requesting that everyone be masked. And nearly everybody that I saw, staff and customers, was, except for a couple, who also left their cart blocking an aisle. As I squeezed past them, the words "rude, unmasked idiots" were heard.. Hmmmm, wonder who said that?? Said hi to all the employees I know.
For the most part, people were maintaining appropriate social distancing, no fussing or impatient types. Seemed to be about the usual number of customers for a Tuesday afternoon. The shelves that I checked were reasonably stocked, pastas, soups (plenty of ramen!), meats, cheese, dairy, bread, coffe and tea, pet food. Even toilet paper! Picked up what I wanted, didn't even have to wait in line. All in all, a fairly typical shopping trip (apart from the minor hypoxia. I do have to remind myself to breathe when I am masked!)
Of course, I happen to be in a bluer part of a fairly red area. Have no idea what is going on in fundieville.
Be safe and well, all.

(24,455 posts)Let me speculate. Lots of horny young kids are gonna enjoy their free-dumb and there really is nothing we can do. So are a bunch of non-science believing churchgoers. Sing loud and proud. Jesus will save us from this virus. Lots of transmission points. God help rural healthcare,

(13,892 posts)that was in the middle of the day. I now go at 6 am when they open up and there is nobody there..Same for my grocery store. The ones that are there are masked... I bet if you made masks fashion statements more would wear them... Like geezers and their new balance sneekers and kids with their skinny jeans..

(8,379 posts)and scroll down. There's a graph of busy versus not busy times, and even a "current" level of how crowded it is. I've been going to the grocery store when it opens.

(113,259 posts)fortunate to have an Ace Hardware near me, and I love it. Staff is wonderful. All masked last time I was in there.

(13,892 posts)They were a hardware store before they were an ACE franchise so they have lots of leeway.. They even have a post office in the place. I love it b/c like the paint department has a person that was a painter, the electrical department has a real electrician. These guys know their stuff..

(16,646 posts)After 6 weeks, we had one ingredient we could not find nor order online. So we went on a scavenger hunt. 3 central Florida "white bread " stores, with no joy and probably 30% mask wearing. The item was ethnic in nature so we tried a Spanish market. Everyone was wearing a mask. Kinda says it all.

(113,259 posts)How it is in the markets, but my spice shop is taking things very seriously. They just started letting in customers (has been curbside til now)' only one or two at a time. Social distancing clearly marked, masks required. Great online ordering. Savory Spice Shops.

(90,645 posts)All employees were masked, and only about 4 customers were not. We were all keeping a reasonable distance from each other, and no one was stressing. Very well stocked, really. This is Ventura, CA.
It's funny/sad, but 3 separate people I interacted with today brought up that stupid water park in the Ozarks, and every one of them knew exactly what the outcome is going to be, and were shocked and saddened.

(8,038 posts)I'm in Redondo Beach (L.A. County) and my understanding is that masks are required in the grocery stores. I know that no one gets into any store down here without a mask on (but then the only stores I go to are my grocery store and a neighborhood market....

(20,576 posts)went out today and even though this county doesn't even qualify for a Phase 2 opening, it was like most people thought this thing was over and it was business as usual. Traffic was heavy and less than 1/4 wearing masks in the store. I didn't realize how many stupid people lived here.

(63,221 posts)For a while it was very tough to get a slot, you would have to plan 3 weeks in advance and even then you couldn't count on getting everything you ordered. I would sometimes wait until 2am to see if I could get an open slot and it was almost impossible for a long time.
I have finally placed an order through Instacart since I can shop at less expensive markets, like Market Basket. Previously I was only going through Whole Foods, Roche Brothers and Peapod, but it was ridiculous how little I would get for the money I was spending.
For a while I couldn't get a slot w/ Instacart, but they have opened up and now I got an order w/ Market Basket which is so much cheaper than the other places I have been shopping. They also have much better stock. I'm in Boston and we still have a very high caseload here, so I am wary about going out until things get a little better.
Fortunately, people here are taking this very seriously and are wearing masks and social distancing (I get the scoop from other friends who have gone out to stores), but I just feel more comfortable not exposing myself to crowds of people yet.
Glad you are staying safe and in are in a good area. Where are you, anyway? Just curious. I always like to know where people are from. Anyway, take care and stay safe!

(113,259 posts)the outrageous prices of Whole Paycheck you are wise to stay in if you possibly can. I am lucky here in Colorado Springs. We have a low rate of reported cases, and where I am, not densely populated, and not so reichwing stupid. Would not venture to northeast part of town, wayyyyy too many r's there.

(23,091 posts)All the workers had masks and gloves and the lobby was socially distanced and most were waiting safely in their cars, however it bothered me that I saw probably 10 people there without masks. You have to have a dr. excuse to get mj in FL.
That's why hubby and me haven't changed our new lifestyles of basically staying at home and are still not going to restaurants to eat or to any popular beaches to walk or smim and do our shopping online, except for groceries and pharmacy needs. We do get takeout from 2 local mom and pops, but we do not eat in a restaurant, go to bars, etc.
