This is rich- NOW Klobuchar wants charges brought against killer cops

Gee, I wonder what made her change her tune...

Everyone is hurting. Anyone with an ounce of humanity is outraged by George Floyd’s killing in the hands of police. The case cries out for action, charges & justice.

As a prosecutor in heavily white Minnesota, Amy Klobuchar declined to go after police involved in fatal encounters with black men

..As chief prosecutor for Minnesota’s most populous county from 1999 to 2007, Klobuchar declined to bring charges in more than two dozen cases in which people were killed in encounters with police.

At the same time, she aggressively prosecuted smaller offenses such as vandalism and routinely sought longer-than-recommended sentences, including for minors. Such prosecutions, done with the aim of curbing more serious crimes, have had mixed results and have been criticized for their disproportionate effect on poor and minority communities.

“We were already a community in distress when she became Hennepin County attorney,” said Nekima Levy Armstrong, a civil rights attorney and former president of the Minneapolis chapter of the NAACP. “Rather than taking steps to help mitigate some of those concerns and issues, during her tenure in office, her policies exacerbated the situation.”...

4. Glad to know she's on board with the racist cop being prosecuted for his obvious crime

5. Only because it affects what's left of her hopes of being Biden's VP pick.

Back when she was Hennepin County attorney, she was quite willing to let Chauvin and other killers in blue go free.

Apparently, quite a few of her fans were and are willing to elide that inconvenient truth...

10. Oh please. What were the stats of that case? What was her reason for not prosecuting?

Did she refuse to prosecute because she was protecting a racist, or were there other factors?

When was "back when". How different were the conditions ?

The case in Mn is murder, without a doubt. His racism is now well known.

I seriously doubt Sen Klobuchar was in Biden's top 2 choices.

13. An elected prosecutor in a heavily white (80%) county has to pick their battles

Especially one that has some very RW suburbs, like Hennepin.

16. That wasn't my question. Isn't this like the club used to beat up Kamala with re: primaries

Klobuchar has a long & appreciable record in the Senate .
I'm not willing to set it all aside as nothing, & club her out of existence without knowing the stats of the cases she handled as a State prosecutor back in 80'/ 90's...

But I also don't see her as VP either, for other reasons.

I think the field for the Biden VP nominee just got smaller by one.

19. Amy Was No Doubt on the "Short List" But I Don't Think She Was 1 or 2

It's not any single case involving Black men that would disqualify her but her history in such cases. Can she point to any cases where she pursued arrest or other punishment for cops involved in shooting citizens? She was already battling the "bad boss" reputation though I don't think that alone would have eliminated her.

I don't see her defending or protecting murderers.

15. your opinion

the rest of the state apparently has a slightly different view. Like, enough to make her a very popular elected official .. at several different levels of office.

Prosecutors are generally not known for (nor gain a lot of respect as) namby-pamby. Hard ass is kind of part of the job description. That doesn't mean discretion and judgement are off the table. But the community organizer position? Nope.

Klobuchar did the job. And, by most accounts, did it pretty well.
Your turn.
