The name of George Floyd's killer did not escape me

Derek Chauvin.

It may be a common name but the only other Chauvin I've ever heard of is:

Nicolas Chauvin
Nicolas Chauvin is a legendary, possibly apocryphal French soldier and patriot who is supposed to have served in the First Army of the French Republic and subsequently in La Grande Armée of Napoleon. His name is the eponym of chauvinism, originally a term for excessive nationalistic fervor, but later used to refer to any form of bigotry or bias (e.g., male chauvinism).

Had a scary thought yesterday; he was not concerned that he was being filmed as he murdered George Floyd. Was he deliberately trying to ignite a race riot?

Just my opinion: It was a deliberate provocation to the witnesses, the bystanders, telling them, "I don't care that you want me to spare this man's life, I'm going to kill this man and you are going to watch me kill him because I have that power and you don't." I agree it was one element that makes this murder so shocking and brazen. It was a crime against George Floyd and everyone who tried to stop it, and his family and, really, everyone who watches that video.

He was definitely taunting the crowd by remaining in position.
