Multiple People Arrested During George Floyd Protest In Union Square

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — At least 10 people were arrested Thursday when protesters gathered in Union Square to call for charges against the officers involved in George Floyd’s death.
Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died in police custody in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Monday after a white officer was filmed kneeling on his neck for several minutes while placing him in handcuffs.
Video by a bystander showed Floyd repeatedly telling the officer he could not breathe.
In Minneapolis, stores were set on fire and officers fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters after demonstrations erupted in violence following Floyd’s death.
Gov. Tim Walz activated the Minnesota National Guard on Thursday and declared a state of emergency in Minneapolis, St. Paul and surrounding areas.
