(16,685 posts)They're just authoritarians. Cops are sacrosanct in their view.

(115,681 posts)FBI special agents may make arrests for any federal offense committed in their presence or when they have reasonable grounds to believe that the person to be arrested has committed, or is committing, a felony violation of U.S. laws. The FBI is currently investigating whether the cops committed a violation of Lloyd's civil rights, but they don't have jurisdiction over murder cases. Normally civil rights cases are charged by grand jury indictment, which means that a grand jury would have to be convened. It's also possible for a person to be charged and arrested by way of a complaint, which is a written statement of essential facts establishing the offense charged made under oath by the agent before a magistrate-judge. Based upon the complaint, an arrest warrant may be issued upon the establishment of probable cause to believe that an offense has been committed and that the defendant committed it. This means a federal agent would have to go to a magistrate with the evidence to get a warrant. There may be some tactical or evidentiary reasons for not having arrested the officers. Clearly they won't be going anywhere.

(21,137 posts)And start a civil war. A desperate man Like MF45 will do anything to stay in power. If anarchy breaks down in this country I can see him and Barr use it to cancel the election.
Then even bigger protests will occur and things could spin out of control.
I really think Twitter needs to block MF45 on Twitter if he calls for anarchy.

(115,681 posts)Both have said they are still investigating. https://www.cnn.com/2020/05/28/us/minneapolis-george-floyd-thursday/index.html There are some roadblocks, not the least of which is that the cops are pleading the 5th, which will make it more difficult to prove their intent - and both the federal civil rights law and the state murder statute require proof of specific intent. It is essential that this investigation is done right, absolutely by the book, so any prosecution that takes place is as airtight as possible.

As for the Floyd Murder, again, that would be a state prosecution, not under DOJ jurisdiction.

(115,681 posts)by the police (excessive force). Its a federal crime when a person who is acting under under color of any law (that is, under governmental authority) violates another persons civil rights willfully (18 U.S.C. § 242).
