A pardon of Roger Stone by Donald Trump will send the message that if "You are my LOYAL lackey, you will get off."

Justice is not blind. It favors a certain segment of society where criminals are rewarded with getting off if you know the right people. Everyone else, you are fucked.

Manafort & Flynn are being taken care of in different ways.

Pardoning Manafort would have just led to him being prosecuted by NY state.
Getting him home is Trump-Barr doing their best to take care of him - to keep him quiet under the cover of the virus - so it doesn't look like a pardon.

The Trump-Barr effort to drop the Flynn case provides cover to avoid the public perception that Trump is pardoning Flynn - again to help keep Flynn quiet.

That allows Trump one controversial pardon to come for a rat who could otherwise expose Trump's links to Russia & Wikileaks.

Is it normal for people who are convicted of a crime to be allowed to go about their lives free until ordered to report to prison? I thought once the jury found you guilty you went straight to jail until your sentencing (assuming of course your crime is worthy of prison)

In the federal system, people who are not considered a risk are often given time to get their affairs in order before they report to a federal prison. Some people are removed from the courtroom in cuffs upon conviction. The latter is far more common in the state courts, though it certainly happens in the federal courts as well. It's probably not that uncommon for a defendant with Stone's background and threat assessment to be given a reporting date rather than hauled off immediately.

Stone absolutely cannot spend even one night behind bars. Trump's entire world depends on it.
