"Minnesota is Mississippi with snow"

was a comment I heard on MSNBC last night.

I think it was said by a former head of the NAACP.

He went on to say that the racial inequities in Minnesota has a long history.

I was unaware of this history of Minnesota.

(I have never lived there. Visited Minneapolis once for a conference).

Any Minnesotans want to comment?

Do you see this as the reality?

There are tons of conservative bastions in California and plenty of liberal enclaves within Alabama.

The idea that an entire state could be considered a political monolith is ridiculous.

But, as we have unfortunately seen, racism exists in liberals as well as conservatives.

Even a "blue" state can be rife with racism.

"Down South, white folks don't care how close I get as long as I don't get too big. Up North, white folks don't care how big I get as long as I don't get too close."

The Minneapolis Police Department in particular has a deeply racist history, and the Twin Cities have a history of redlining that still apparent today. We like to congratulate ourselves on our midwestern progressivism, but there are deep-rooted racist issues that affect everything if not directly addressed.

The saying goes:

"Southerners like individual black people but don't like African Americans as a group. Northerners like African Americans as a whole, but don't like individual black people."

I didn't understand it the first time I heard it and I still don't.

Wherever there is an identifiable minority, that minority will face discrimination.

I’m learning many of my colleagues in the tech sector in the San Francisco Bay Area are extreme conservatives. I’ve also noticed much more pro-gun, 2nd Amendment, Don’t tread on me, shitty bumper stickers in my neighborhood in Menlo/Palo Alto. Wtf is going on in California?!?!!?
