Had to go to the store today with my wife. We shop at Publix and compliments on how they have responded to the virus - except for one thing. The store does not have a mandatory face mask policy. For some reason I asked a woman why she wasn't wearing a mask, she smiled shyly and replied that she didn't know why.
Later going up an aisle (they have aisle marked up or down to control crowding) the same woman and her companion were coming down the up aisle. The woman's companion asked me if I was the one that admonished her friend. I said I was and why wasn't she wearing a mask also. "GOD WILL PROTECT ME AND SAVE ME" she shouted. I (And I have never done this) called both of them fools and said "Hallelujah" and called them both dumb asses.
Later I thought about the temptation of Christ by the devil who told him to throw himself from a cliff and God and the Angels would lift him up so no harm would come to him. Christ responded, It has been said, 'You shall not tempt THE LORD JEHOVAH your God.' .
The religious nuts are tempting God with their attitude and are too narrow-minded to recognize it.

(13,868 posts)A middle-aged guy asked me, in a non-threatening manner, why I was wearing a mask. I just said, Because I dont want to be an asshole.
He shrugged his shoulders and walked on.
Dont think I would have done it had it been an angry MAGA hat guy.

(10,428 posts)Many years ago, in a martial arts class I used to attend, there was a guy from a rural family. I think he was about 17 or so, went for 4 years then moved away. Highly religious family, home-schooled, no doubt they went to many anti-abortion protests, listened to Limbaugh, addicted to Fox, loved Bush and the Iraq war.
Very intelligent people, but the one thing that stood out was they had terrible teeth. Clean, nicely dressed, nice looking otherwise, but I always wondered "didn't anyone ever show you how to brush and floss????"
So maybe they really were relying on God to provide their dental care. . .

(15,078 posts)That they stay out of the health care system and let God decide whether to keep them alive or spirit them up to heaven.
They aren't allowed to have any medical attention, nor are they permitted to be treated by a nurse or doctor that might run out of PPE.
Geeez.

It will shine a light on them and humiliate them.

(16,402 posts)That would be a good way to get shot. The MAGAts and their ilk have completely lost whatever sense they might have had (which is questionable to begin with) and are prone to violence.

(9,258 posts)Sign at entrance that masks are mandatory. Plastic shields at cashiers and enforcement of 6 feet while waiting. But they gave up on one-way aisles and took the arrows down. I admit I forgot about it a couple times as I know where everything is and skip aisles if I dont need anything in that aisle, and went the wrong direction.

(10,428 posts)a few years ago about relying on God and prayer for illnesses etc. I asked him if he were to start choking on something, which would he rather I do - the Heimlich maneuver or get on my knees and pray for God to save him.

(13,868 posts)Police had to come in force to remove his body since immediate disinfecting and burial is required for any virus deaths.
His hundreds of supporters were not panicked because he had laid hands on them, but because they were removing the body before the third day when they we certain he was going to rise from the dead.

(268,868 posts)I went to pick up something at an institution yesterday and they were allowing ten persons inside at a time. Most of us in the line outside had on our masks and were social distancing. This woman with no mask came up and was not social distancing so I told her not to come close to me. A guy in the line repeated what I said and she took off on us - telling us some religious BS about getting saved. Eventually I asked her to shut up since all she was doing was spreading germs. Others in the line gave her some choice Jamaican bad words and eventually she unleashed her own bad words and took off. We did laugh.

(51,308 posts)I must be lucky. I shop at Publix, and I see most wearing masks.
I keep my distance from everyone, masked or not. I would not see how my confronting someone would help to make them do what anyone with a brain is already doing.
Stress is not something I seek out. How was your wife with this confrontation? And I can't help but ask, would you have confronted a MAN not wearing a mask?
Steelrolled
(2,022 posts)Funny that the confrontation comes from both sides. Like you, I do everything I can do to avoid virus, and just get out. I don't know why people would want to encourage shouting by people without masks - that's a lot of flying droplets.

(42,541 posts)29 When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord. 30 When Aaron and all the Israelites saw Moses, his face was radiant, and they were afraid to come near him. 31 But Moses called to them; so Aaron and all the leaders of the community came back to him, and he spoke to them. 32 Afterward all the Israelites came near him, and he gave them all the commands the Lord had given him on Mount Sinai.
33 When Moses finished speaking to them, he put a veil over his face. 34 But whenever he entered the Lords presence to speak with him, he removed the veil until he came out. And when he came out and told the Israelites what he had been commanded, 35 they saw that his face was radiant. Then Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with the Lord.

(32,677 posts)Bible story?
Those of us wearing masks and sheltering as much as possible have chosen to go onto the ark.
Then you have the people who are mocking the people who have gone into the ark, so to speak.
In the Bible story, when the flood came, the people who previously mocked the ark were begging to be let on the boat.
Could it be that some of the religious nuts out there are completely oblivious to what could potentially be a modern day test of faith?
