Just now on CNN, he declared an emergency and called up the GA National Guard.

(10,009 posts)There is no way Kemp can suddenly pretend he cares to settle things down and bring about unity.
The Guard, if used properly and in restrained manner can patrol and enforce curfews until things calm down a bit.
None of this should have had to happen. The GOP owns this.

(54,770 posts)have moved toward high end shopping centers in Buckhead. Im skeptical they are protesting anything.
Those who want to protest and I get it need to go to the Capitol, police stations, Governors mansion, etc.

(25,960 posts)Apparently a restaurant near Lenox is on fire and a close by apartment complex might be evacuated. Phipps Plaza has had looting, as well as a nearby Target. It's surreal. The newscasters are making the point that the people involved with the protests earlier and the people looting and setting fires now are not necessarily the same crowd, which impresses me.
Could not agree more.
WSB confirms the National Guard is in Buckhead now. Wow. This is not good. Kemp is just trash, but Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is amazing. Her comments today chastising the looters and telling people to go home were so on point. I am hoping she keeps things together for the city.

(54,770 posts)Sorry for the local Fox link, but they have the best video of Mayor Bottoms, without a lot of extraneous stuff.
Look up Killer Mikes comments too. This is where its at.

(54,770 posts)Honestly, things were escalating enough that it was probably prudent to call them up just in case -- even if they were just held somewhere in case needed.
I think the police were doing a good job and not using force, but they'd been working all day.
