(22,112 posts)would have happened if no one had recorded these officer's actions? Thank goodness for the unimpeachable evidence of the camera...

(62,406 posts)were using extreme force that could have been turned on her.
Because of her there may actually be some changes in the rot of our justice system for people of color. She is a true, true hero.
I imagine she feels some guilt for not being able to save Mr. Floyd. I think she may feel that for some time.
At some point I hope she will come to understand that she has no fault in this matter. Then I hope she will come to understand that she and society should be extremely mad at those officers who were doing wrong and put her and us all in a situation we want no part of.
I wonder how many would have been able to record what she did. What she did took a lot of bravery and courage.

(22,112 posts)recording their actions (thank goodness she wasn't) and they could have taken her phone/device and smashed it. Courage comes in all shapes and sizes, doesn't it? She, as you say, a hero.

(61,598 posts)I had no idea that the person who filmed Mr. Floyd's murder is only seventeen.
I can't imagine the trauma of witnessing that.

(24,653 posts)My heart breaks for her. I hope she has the support she needs. This is serious psychological and emotional trauma. The Minneapolis police need to be held responsible for her and all the other witnesses too.

(23,307 posts)She outed a white supremacist gang of cops. There are those that may want to exact retribution.

Ramsey Orta filmed the killing of Eric Garner. The video traveled far, but it wouldn't get justice for his dead friend. Instead, the NYPD would exact their revenge through targeted harassment and eventually imprisonment Orta's punishment for daring to show the world police brutality.

<snip>
Ortas video soon to be seen by the world showed Garner trying to explain that hed done nothing wrong. Then a police officer wrapped his arm around Garners neck, gripping him in a chokehold until he collapsed. The video showed Garner saying eleven times that he couldnt breathe. It showed the officers ignoring Garners distress, pushing his head into the pavement, letting him lose consciousness there, die there.
Now, near midnight, Orta was in his apartment, the door locked behind him. His house was dark. His family was asleep. He went to the window, looking for the black Crown Vic that had tailed him as hed walked home. He checked the security of the locks on the door, then checked again. He got into bed, but sleep wouldnt come. Images from the day swirled above on his dark ceiling.
<snip>
Suddenly, Ortas bedroom filled with light. Disoriented, he wondered if hed fallen asleep without realizing it and had woken to the dawn. He rose. It wasnt daylight but a spotlight blasting his home from outside. The metal bars on his windows cast back on him as a grid of shadows. He ran out to the street and saw police cars parked in front of his house, the silhouettes of faceless officers watching.
Theyre here for me, Orta thought, because I have proof of what happened.

(11,558 posts)How could she not be after witnessing the calculated and cold-blooded murder of yet another unarmed black man? I dont know which was worse to see, the intentional killing of Mr. Floyd or the callous disregard of the other officers standing in watch, aiding and abetting this murder. The Minneapolis PD should, at the very least, be responsible for whatever therapy and supports this young woman will require going forward.

(1,402 posts)In my opinion, she is a HERO!! The video made all of us focus on something that has been occurring in our law enforcement for a long, long time. Yes, the protests are terrible but there have been protests in the past and nothing ever changes. She did it for George Floyd and all the others that have been murdered by someone in our law enforcement. Our whole Law Enforcement is responsible because they just cover up for these murderers !!!

(25,963 posts)Given her age, the stage of her life she is going through, this will be an even more difficult burden to bear. I hope her family is aware of the legal steps they need to take, and that Darnella Frazier receives all of the emotional support she needs to get through this.
