“Under the Constitution, only federal criminal convictions, such as those adjudicated in the United States District Courts, may be pardoned by the President … However, the President cannot pardon a state criminal offense.

There are times were murder is considered a federal crime. For example, if Chauvin had murdered a federal judge or a member of congress, or sent a poison or explosive through the mail, that would be considered as a federal crime.
