I spoke out and you didn't hear.
I cried and you didn't hear.
I screamed and you didn't hear.
So now I'm burning your city and innocent people are losing their businesses and homes because my words, my tears, my screams went unheard. Riots are the voice of the unheard. Can you hear me now?
I am a 72 year old white man and I've wondered how any black man could show so much restraint. How he could wake up every morning, get dressed and go out into the world and not slap the living shit out of the first white man he saw. I understand there is an end to restraint.
I don't know how you've done it but I thank you for your for your humanity and hopefully someday for your forgiveness. If we ever earn the right to ask for it.

And neither my heart nor my head knows how to change it.
We, as a society, make laws. We pass regulations. We try to correct our wrongs. We can do this because there are more of us than them. Yet it all stays the same.
Nobody is born to hate. They have to be taught. Who is teaching their children to hate? Why are they teaching their children to hate? Where and how is that chain to be broken?
Racism isn't any worse than it's ever been, it's just coming out into the open now. If it weren't there to begin with there would be nothing to stoke, nothing to bring to the surface. Why hasn't anything really changed?
