Trump will soon come out as the law and order president

Just got through talking with my buddy and he says this is going to be Trump's playbook to change the subject from 150 - 160,000 dead come election.

it looks like one of the politicians during the 60s did the same thing or something similar.

I pray that somehow Democrats head this off by highlighting how corrupt Trump's admin has been and make sure to place it on Trump as the person instigating the law lessness and disorder.

EDIT: I'm thinking this might be a horse log for Trump because his administration has been so corrupt

The law and order routine worked for Nixon only because Johnson was already unpopular due to the Vietnam war. Trump is already unpopular, and he has done absolutely nothing about the pandemic, the economy, or the racial and social problems that have led to the protests (except to make them worse). He will be preaching to the MAGAts, as usual, but the truth is that he has completely failed to manage any of the crises, which will only get worse. The violent protests will subside but covid-19 won't and the economy isn't likely to recover. No matter how much he might blather about law and order, he has revealed himself is weak and unable to lead.

4. He's on tape promoting illegal violence by both police and civilians. His pivot won't work.

MAGATs will of course repeat his rhetoric, but the rebuttal is simple and persuasive - a few quick sound bites of him advocating police violence. The majority knows Trump is full of shit, and won't buy it.

If he was running for the first time this would make sense -- "I'm going to swoop in and save America from the failed incumbent!" -- but he IS the incumbent. He already promised to save America, and his failures could not be more obvious.

If he wants to be the law and order president then he has to tamp this situation down, fast. How? He won't try to make some kind of conciliatory, unifying speech to try to calm things down, because he can't -- it would be seen as totally disingenuous given all his past statements -- and that's not how his mind works anyway.

The only thing left to try is some kind of authoritarian crackdown involving the military, and if he tries that, people are going to get killed and the situation will get worse not better. Which again puts the lie to his claim of being the "law and order" president.

I mean sure, no doubt he'll TRY to come out as the law and order president somehow, but he might as well try to come out as "the health care president" or "the ethics president" or "the president least likely to pay off porn stars." If he tries it, it will be bullshit, and everyone knows it.
