I am pulling this out of my ass but I think the protesters are being infiltrated by the fascist scum. Attacking journalists is just getting rid of the video evidence.

There is no reason that the government has not recorded the actual firestarting and vandalism. If we can blow people up from the comfort of a chair and a computer, we can record and identify the real culprits. I bet a significant number are right wingers.

but the GOP with a little help from their friends will try very hard to put that perception in peoples minds. I've seen several posts asking the same question, and I can't help but think there's something afoot. Have they started already? They want to make it seem the election is close enough so they can steal it with relative ease. The perception that it could happen legitimately is dead wrong.
