My pledge of allegiance (in honor of Independence Day).

I pledge allegiance to the Constitution of the United States of America and to the republic that was created by it, one nation, and we dont care what you think about God, indivisible (following the Civil War, at which time it was decided that NO STATE had the right to leave the Union), with liberty and justice for some of us (but were honestly working hard to make it ALL of us).

7. A remix...

I pledge allegiance to the Laws, of the United States of America; and to the Constitution from which they rise.

I honor the symbols of the republic for what they are, but revere the right to set alight these symbols in protest as conscience and values may advise.

One person, One vote, One nation, One hope; indivisible, with liberty and justice the goal, until SOME at long last becomes ALL.

We need a touchstone and something to inspire, my writing is not in that league, but I welcome anyone's efforts to punch it up...

2. In the few times I've actually said the Pledge of Allegiance in my adulthood,

I always pledge to the Constitution, not the flag.

3. Absolutely!

I took an oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States, not its flag.

4. As I say it, I'm always looking around to see if anyone can hear me.

Kind of like poking them with a stick a little bit.

And that flag just represents what country I happen to be in. It's the Constitution that matters!

9. Well done

Look, as long as you keep it outta schools were good. Same with the national anthem. That is any pledges and anthems to force patriotism. Well written pledge, though! Good ideals.
