“She notified me that they wanted to intubate her and put her on a ventilator,” Jesse Byrd said of his wife. “That was the last time I was allowed to speak with her.”

Byrd said he wasn’t allowed to be at his wife’s side when she died June 26 after being hospitalized for almost two weeks.

“She bought face shields, she practiced social distancing. She did everything she could to avoid this virus, Luke Byrd said of his mother, who was a teacher for nearly 40 years and came out of retirement to help more students.

Read or heard that 25% of teachers are immuno-compromised. It’s not safe for the adults either.

Thinking back to when I was working, I remember teachers and staff with all manner of co-morbidity including cancer. Plus we had kids with various conditions including cancer, diabetes, asthma, you-name-it. We had lots of special needs students.

This is madness.

Most children/teenagers do seem to have milder symptoms. But older teachers with pre-existing conditions will be at great risk. Special needs students with pre-existing conditions will also be at great risk.
