Santorum Tells Kids With Gay Parents: You’d Be Better Off With Parents In Prison

For the second time in as many days, Rick Santorum waded into the issue of gay marriage, suggesting it was so important for children to have both a father and mother that an imprisoned father was preferable to a same-sex parent.

Citing the work of one anti-poverty expert, Santorum said, “He found that even fathers in jail who had abandoned their kids were still better than no father at all to have in their children’s lives.”

Allowing gays to marry and raise children, Santorum said, amounts to “robbing children of something they need, they deserve, they have a right to. You may rationalize that that isn’t true, but in your own life and in your own heart, you know it’s true.” [...]

The students at Dublin School, which runs from ninth through 12th grade, were primed for Santorum’s visit, said headmaster Brad Bates. He said three students in the audience had gay parents, though they were not among those who asked about the topic.

They better rush right out and remarry? My Grandma was widowed with a 2 and 4 year old. I supposed by Ricky's twisted mind she should have remarried just so there could be a man in the home? Hillary was right that it "takes a village" to raise a child. In the case of my Mom and Uncle, Grandma's BROTHERS and SISTERS pitched in to help her with their niece and nephew. Family doesn't end with a father (male) and mother (female).

Even an abuser apparently, since one in jail is better than none, presumably even a bad man is better than none. What a moran Ricky is. And if one man is better than none, two should be better, so gay males make the best parents.

and a Catholic at that, used to say, "No man is better than a BAD man". I am sure Santorum would have just loved that. Grandma raised her two kids from ages of 2 and 4, alll alone back in the 1920's. She did housekeeping and nanny jobs to support her kids. Santorum and his ilk would not have been happy with that, but Grandma had BROTHERS and SISTERS who helped her out. As Hillary very wisely said, "it takes a village to raise a child". Familes don't end with Mom (female) and Dad (male).

I am sick of reading his disgusting bullshit!

I can NOT imagine hearing him spew the vile things that come out of his pie hole, in person.

I certainly would NOT want to be around those who listen to this disgustingly vile crap and think they will support and vote for this cretin.

It would not have the authority to outlaw single female parenting.

And how come the right wing never worries about missing mothers?

And have them adopted by a couple where one of the parents is in jail.

That's the ticket.

If you define "better" in a certain way, then his statement may be true (he defined the parameters, so it WOULD be true, right?).

But if you define "better" in another way, then the gay parent may be determined to be "better."

It's a statement anyone can make about anything, as long as YOU are the one to define what "better" means.

It always amuses me when people like Santorum use words like "rationalize," as if they know what it means.

form Rome. Statements have been made that it is a form of abuse to have children raised in same-gender environments.

Beware, the first link is full of distortions and falsehoods but it follows the Vatican's official line pretty closely.
