Brexit : The UK is SO screwed in negotiating trade deals. MPs Vote to Give Up Control.

MPs Vote to Give Up Control Over Trade Deals

In parliament last night, MPs were given the opportunity to insist that they have oversight over all of our brexit trade deals, and a vote on the final agreement. They turned down the opportunity. Ironically, it was the pro-Brexit MPs who voted to give up control over our trade deals, which means they can own the collapse of British jobs that it will cause.

So essentially, Johnson can agree to anything, to get a trade deal, and the details of the deal can't be divulged for 5 years, or when the new rules come into operation.

So Trump can screw the hell out of the UK in trade negotiations (which he will), but it can't take effect until after the end of the EU Withdrawal agreement at the end of the year, by which time Trump will hopefully have lost.

No surprise the Brexiteers voted to have no control; they called the Supreme Court muriel_volestrangler Jul 2020 #1
The "Win" is paramount, in a display of uncanny similarity to Trumpists. OnDoutside Jul 2020 #4

"enemies of the people" for saying parliament should vote on Brexit decisions, and vilified Gina Miller for months for taking it to court. And rolled over for the illegal prorogation of parliament.

It's going to be a slow painful process. The only good thing for the UK is the (hopefully) new Democratic administration in the US will challenge Johnson.

Most of the Brexit fans I spoke with in the U.K. during the three year run-up to the vote were some combination of racists and nationalists. Especially the further north and more rural you traveled.

When the smoke clears, I suspect the U.K. will find itself on the losing end of any trade negotiations. So Johnson may reach his end without any help from a more enlightened US Administration.
